Interesting Clown Fish Facts

Here are some interesting facts about this amazing sea creature. They are strikingly colored and are known for their ability to live with the sea anemones. They have many other interesting features also which have been discussed below. 

 

Clown fish live with the sea anemones. Anemones are flesh-eating sea animals that look like plants and clown fish can coexist with them. A layer of mucus on their bodies protect them from getting stung by the lethal tentacles of anemones.

They can lay a clutch of 1000 to 2000 eggs on the average. They are known to spawn around the time of full moon in the wild.

They are also called anemone fish due to their friendship with the sea anemones. They  even lay their eggs on the plain sea surface near the anemone. 

They have a short lifespan which ranges between six to ten years in the wild.

Currently there are 28 known species of these fish.

In Japan, they are known as kakure-kumanomi. In French language they are called poisson clown.

They can reach about 4.3 inches in length.

Did you know that even the clown fish can't live with all the species of the sea anemones?

Before residing a sea anemone, the clown fish perform a special kind of dance with it. They touch every part of their body to the anemone during this dance and this helps the purpose of acclimatization.

They get their name from the stripes and the bouncy movements they make. 

The clown fish are also known for their ability to change sex. In fact all clown fish are born male and when a female dies, the dominant male turns itself into a female.

Did you know that their eggs take only four to five days to hatch?

Clown fish and the sea anemone, both help each other in the everyday life. As the clown fish are poor swimmers and can easily be preyed upon, so anemone saves them from predators as only a few fish can survive through the lethal tentacles of anemones. On the other hand, the clown fish keep the anemones clean by eating the leftovers. Another benefit for the fish that it also gets its food from anemones.
