As I mentioned in another article, my hubby is an absolute coffee snob.  He would drive by many coffee shops even though he really wanted one just to get that perfect cup at home.  He won’t settle.  So for a gift this year I am looking at a coffee roaster so he can roast his own beans right from their raw state, but I thought this Kona French Press would be the perfect addition.

Less Fuss for an Awesome Cup

I find making it less fussy with a French press.  You don’t have to get out that large machine for a few cups.  You don’t have the paper filters to deal with and this just seems to be quicker, especially just for a few cups.  Making it this way is a little different but once you get used to it there is no turning back.  You are more in control.

How to Make French Press Coffee

1.  Put the kettle on to boil, and try and get it before it reaches the boil or if it does just wait a minute or two afterwards.  You want the water almost boiling but not quite when you use it.

2.  Put in the required amount of course ground coffee in the bottom of the carafe with the kona french pressCredit: amazon.complunger out. (If it is too fine it will get stuck in the screen) course ground works best.  Most of the tin ground coffees in the grocery store tend to be on the courser side.  Or many grocery stores will sell the beans with a grinder on site, just set to course.  Follow package instructions for how much to use.

3.  Pour in the required amount of water, and then gently stir with a wooden spoon.  Metal could break the glass so use a wooden spoon.  Wait 4 minutes, and then gently lower the plunger down into the liquid slowly.  This will separate out the coffee grounds from the water and collect them in the bottom of the carafe. (See video below)

4.  Now pour yourself a great cup of coffee.  Apparently according to coffee lovers I know, this makes the best cup of java.

After you have finished your cup, and the French press has cooled down, clean out those used grounds.  You can use these coffee grounds for many other purposes around the house check out this article for more ideas on how to use old coffee grounds.

Review of Kona

Kona Review

I found this Kona French Press Review, that you might find interesting, also shows you more in detail how to use it.   It is good looking too, so could be left on the counter instead of being hidden away.

Gift Ideas

No matter what time of year or for what special occasion, this would make the perfect gift for any coffee lover on your list or for yourself.  Many people will have one at home or at work.  As long as they have access to heated water they can use this anywhere.

Start to Finish Coffee Process

You can take this a step further as I am doing when it comes to the serious coffee lover (or addict!).  I am going to purchase a coffee roaster so that he can roast the beans from their raw state (green beans) then a good quality grinder (below) then this beautiful Kona French Press Coffee, so that he can make his cup of the perfect java right from the beginning!  Roasting your own beans has become popular especially if you love to have control of the type of roast you get which is based on heating time.  Coffee Roasters take the guess work out of this process.

Krups Coffee Grinder

You can get coffee beans ground at larger grocery stores, or you can buy the already ground tins.  But there is something about grinding your own beans that releases that fresh aroma into the room that gets you in the mindset of that perfect cup of java you are about to have.  It is quick and simple to use and will grind those beans in seconds.  It can also be used for grinding down nuts, seeds and other things so it does have multi uses.    I use them for grinding walnuts all the time.  The blades are sharp and fast and it is an oval design which is easier to hold.

I am also starting to see “decaff beans” on the market if you love that coffee but the caffeine doesn’t love you!  You can still enjoy the flavor without the jolt.

I will never get him out to a café for that coffee date again!

Also Makes a Good Loose Leaf Tea

For myself, I would like to get one to make my loose leaf tea in.  I love the shape of this carafe and the no fuss filtering with the screen.  I don’t have to pour it through a sieve, just use it right from the carafe.

So I will get one for hubby and one for myself.

Totally dishwasher safe, doesn’t burn your hands, and easy to use.

Gift Ideas

Trying to find the right gift for the person on your list doesn’t have to be hard.  I found the best way was to notice the things they like to do, even the simple things such as cooking, the foods they like the coffee they like or tea, and some of their habits and see if there is anything you could get them to help with their everyday life or hobbies.
