When you first move onto your campus you may be surprised at how many rules are set in place for what you can, or cannot, do to your room. The rules are often set in place so that there is less work for the colleges to do on the rooms each year but those rules don't always vibe with your own sense of how best to style a room, especially a room that will be not only your bedroom, but your living room, office and often a kitchen as well. While some of these rules can make decorating more difficult that in your room at home, there are plenty of college decorating ideas that will help you have a fantastic campus room.

College Decorating Ideas : The Bed

Since college decorating ideas for your dorm generally means you are stuck using the beds given to you and are faced with the inability to permanently attach anything to the walls but a great deal of this can be worked around. The bed is the place where you can make the biggest impact. Find a comforter that is bright and has a pattern you enjoy. Thank of your comforter as a work of art and add some pillows for the finishing touch. Remember that you will most likely be using the bed as your couch as well so extra pillows will make it much more comfortable.

College Decorating Ideas : The Walls

Other college decorating ideas are to use tacky or Velcro tape to attach artistic posters to the wall. Place the posters in cheap plastic frames will make for a classier look. If possible you can also change the window coverings to something that matches your style.

College Decorating Ideas : Organization

Organizing your room will make it feel bigger and will make you feel better when you are in it. Make sure that everything you need has a place in the room and leave what you don't need back at your parents house. Use plastic tubs and baskets to store your stuff in your closet or under your bed.

College Decorating Ideas : Compromise

When coming up with college decorating ideas you should discuss these ideas with your roommate if you have one. You may be able to coordinate your styles and, at the least, compromise where your ideas may clash. Perhaps you can agree on a color but will have different patters or can choose an area rug that will work for both of you.

College decorating ideas may not be as numerous as the ones you would be able to come up with for your own home but that shouldn't keep you from leaving your own sense of style on your campus room.
