You are young, you have just passed your exams and suddenly you find that you are free from the apron strings, adrift and at sea with other lusty young people and.... naturally it is time to party and engage in various high jinx. Of course, you will still make time for the studies. But the question is: are such college high jinx, harmless or not?

Often college fun is perfectly innocent, consisting of tea parties, where students simply hold hands and engage in think tanks about how to save humanity from the scourge of poverty and right wing politics (got ya!).........well that's what I told my mother. But often partying and dirty deeds are more the go (why was I not invited?). Some events are debauched,  others closer to wonderfully wicked and then.. there are those examples of hauntingly horrible high jinx, that everyone would rather forget. BUT no not a chance.

Love Tryst at Exeter University Safe Sex Ball

The recent doings at Exeter University, Safe Sex Ball were a scorcher!

The event which was organised  as a fundraiser for various charities, did in fact manage to raise £140,000. Dress on the night was supposed to be scanty and risqué, and contraception was given at the door. But one couple lost more than their  clothes.

The decadent duo have gained world wide fame, as their steamy, illicit... meeting was recorded and spread across the world. The female student, dressed in a short skirt and male decked out in a cape, meet at the pool table, a spot which they probably believed to be private, they shed their clothing and engage in a bit of.....intimate relations.

But unbeknownst to them, a CCTV is trained exactly, on their x-rated rendezvous, recording their every move. Of course some bright spark recorded the brazen performance onto a mobile phone and set it free to whirl into cyber space, sparking a scandal and lots of finger-pointing.

Miami University Drunken Spree

One of Miami universities most infamous sororities, rented the Cincinnati museum's function room for their spring formal. However not long after arrival, these lasses began throwing up on themselves, their dates and the contents of the museum. The girls had illegally brought alcohol into the museum in soda drink bottles, and most got blotto.

The gentlemen accompanying the er... ladies on the night, actually "relieved" themselves all over the walls etc  in the museum toilets, even causing an overflow in the urinals. While the girls had a tissue fight in their own powder room.  This lot are even guilty of "urinating on artifacts". Hot dog and holy cow!

St John's College at the University of Sydney

Scandal exploded at the residential, St John's College,  Sydney University, which is the oldest Roman Catholic university college. Five Catholic priests resigned over the outrageous initiation rituals, which involved forced consumption of toxic drinks made with shampoo, Tabasco sauce and dog food; sending one girl to hospital with a bleeding stomach. Such rituals have descended into a frenzy of anarchy, vandalism, fire lighting and even involved the spreading of fecal matter.

Bullying and intimidation has been widespread, requiring safe houses being set up for the students, who informed authorities about the abuses going on. Threats have been serious according to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH), with menacing promises made by students to ''crucify'' her ''upside down'' and ''I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.''

Some students even brought in an IT expert to track other student messages. However, scandals at this particular college go back decades according to another SMH article, and a culture of booze and nudity is pervasive.

Duke University faux sex thesis

Before she graduated from Duke University in May 2010, student Karen Owen wrote a thesis styled document about her sexploits, while at university. She intended the document only for the eyes of her three friends, but one of these "friends" slipped the document along to others, and it went viral.

With the catching title "An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics", Karen Owen rated, named and  provided photos of her boudoir partners, who included members of the university lacrosse team.

Later Karen Owen expressed regret about the document, but since then she has been offered a book deal and her story was the basis of a plot on the TV program Law & Order: SVU. But at what cost to many?

The Tragic Death of Tyler Clementi

Eighteen-year-old Tyler Clementi, was a student at Rutgers University, he was a talented violinist and also gay. Unfortunately this young man had the misfortune to share a room, with a person who thought that it was OK to video private, romantic encounters between consenting adults.

Clementi had previously arranged with his roommate to have the room privately for the evening. His roommate was out of the room, but had a webcam set up there.

The roommate messaged friends and Twitter followers to watch the private footage that he recorded. Clementi then requested another dorm room, explaining that his "roommate used webcam to spy on me."[18]. However another webcam transmission attempt was made by the roommate, who declared he was also having a “viewing party.” Also making various derogatory remarks and comments.

That same evening Tyler Clementi made his way to George Washington Bridge, leaving only a phone message behind "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry."

University high jinx may seem harmless and fun at the time, but the repercussions may be with you for the rest of your life, and also the regret.
