Combination Door Locks Can Save The Day

By | Sep 25, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

The standard combination door lock has a number pad with one key for each number, and some have four additional keys with the letters A, B, C, D, which provide more secure access codes. Securing our belongings and the people we care about most has become increasingly important, but providing appropriate access to homes and cars used to mean passing keys into the hands of virtual strangers. Combination door locks provide peace of mind when a child must come home in the middle of the day, when car keys are accidently locked inside, or when a repairman is needed but a family member cannot be home to open the door.

A combination pad can be mounted just outside a garage door at the appropriate height for a young child to reach. When the correct code is entered, the garage door opener is activated and the door is lifted to allow access to the home. Even though parents want to be present whenever a child is home, simply providing electronic access can provide safety until a parent can rush home from work or an appointment. When friends visit and become familiar with the code, simply change the code.

Some automobiles are equipped with a five-key number pad on the driver-side door. A unique combination is programmed and allows access to the car as long as the car battery contains a charge. For people who tend to forget their keys or for those who do not really want to carry their keys constantly, the combination door lock on a car can seem like a mandatory feature on every vehicle.

Combination door locks are also available on doorknobs. The number pad is backlit for readability at night, and a soft beep sounds when the button has been successfully pressed. When a serviceman has accessed the house and completed a repair, the code can be changed and given only to the homes residents. Whether the lock is mechanical or electronic, a numeric combination provides access when entered correctly.

Using combination locks on homes and vehicles ensures safety without having to keep track of keys. Locksmiths are no longer necessary because the codes can be changed easily and frequently to keep the circle of entrants narrow. Batteries in the number pad and door knob combination locks can be changed on the same day that the smoke alarm batteries are changed to ensure that the batteries are never depleted when access is needed.
