Commercial Printing
Maybe you've thought about printing something professionally. Maybe you have the artwork already created and the only source for printing is your local print shop that has several scanners and printers. But have you really taken the concept of commercial printing into consideration. There are many internet print shops that provide valuable resource and options to get the very best quality in commercial printing at a reasonable cost.
How do you find a commercial printing that is able to provide the type of service you require? That's pretty simple. Let's say you want business cards, post card or brochure printing. Start your search with that. Search several source online and by asking friends and family. Once you've established a list of printing companies, then you can begin your research process.
You'll need to have several things in order before contacting a commercial printer. Most importantly you'll need to identify the quantity you desire. These range from 100 to 10,000, usually at intervals of 500 or 1000. To say you need 432 copies of post cards is not really an option in most cases. You need the art work to be high res, 300 dots per inch and preferably in PDF, illustrator file or a high resolution JPEG.
Most commercial printing companies will ask you to provide any special notes. These may include stapling, perforating the copies or shrink wrapping.
Bleeds are also important. What are bleeds? When you want the color to go to the edge of the paper, you usually design your file 0.25" bigger all the way around in order for the cutter to make a sharp cut and allow the color to bleed to the edge.
Folding instructions if they necessary. Total pages in your document are also important. Other special requests are bindery instruction, paper option and the finishing of the paper. For example, you may want card stock paper or maybe recycled paper. These options weight into costs, time of delivery and processing time. UV protection finishing layer allows the paper to have a shine to it and it won't allow people to use a ball point pen to write your printing materials. All of these options should be taken into consideration.
So there you have it, printing options that would be considered when you contact a commercial printing company. Don't just settle for the easy answer, always investigate, shop around, ask fro samples and get information from bloggers and other commercial printing articles around the internet.
