Common Teeth Whitening Procedures

By | May 16, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

While there are many different types of teeth whitening procedures available on the market today, the huge array of choices can be quite daunting if you don't know what to look for. Should you opt for a professional teeth whitening treatment or should you try to whiten your teeth on your own? To answer this commonly asked question, we will consider three very different teeth whitening procedures in this article. You should bear in mind that one procedure is not necessarily better than the other. Every individual has varying teeth whitening needs and this is where different teeth whitening procedures come into the picture.

Now before I proceed with the discussion, I should mention the fact that I am not a dentist by profession. There is plenty of great information concerning teeth whitening treatment that can be found online, and I would encourage all of you to do some further reading up. You can find numerous online reviews of different teeth whitening methods written by real people like you and me. Ultimately, before you proceed with any treatment, you should always first consult your dentist for advice.

To begin with, if you are looking for a cheap teeth whitening procedure, then you should consider buying an over-the-counter (OTC) product. One of the most popular products is Crest Whitestrips. These strips come with a peroxide gel which whitens teeth by bleaching them. These over the counter products are fine as long as the stains on your teeth aren't too bad. There is one minor drawback about such products and that is they don't whiten the space between each tooth and this can take away from the brightness most people seek for in a smile. As for the procedure part, it is very easy to apply the Crest Whitestrips. All you have to do is simply stick them onto your teeth for two 30 minute sessions each day. Continue to do this for a couple of weeks and you will start to see some results. You can find this teeth whitening product at most pharmacies and they usually cost around $30-$40.

If you're willing to spend a bit more money, then chances are you will see significantly better results. The second teeth whitening procedure we're going to discuss here are the take-home kits. These teeth whitening systems generally take the form of two mouth guard looking items which are custom fit for your bottom and top rows of teeth. They are filled with a fairly high concentrate of hydrogen peroxide gel which penetrates and bleaches the teeth when you wear these trays in your mouth. Unlike the Crest Whitestrips as mentioned earlier, most of these mouth trays are designed for a single use. The cost of this teeth whitening procedure is estimated to be around $200.

The final and possibly the best teeth whitening procedure is one that's actually performed in the dental clinic. The most popular treatment is quite likely the Brite Smile Whitening Procedure. Usually, this procedure involves the use of a heat lamp (sometimes called a laser) as well as a highly concentrated peroxide gel. This is a lot more expensive than the methods discussed above but the results can be stunning! You can expect to shell out close to $1000 for this laser teeth whitening procedure.

Well, I hope this article has dispelled a few doubts in your mind. As mentioned above, you should definitely do plenty of research before you decide on which teeth whitening procedure best suits your need. Good luck with your search!
