Common cold treatment using natural products

Are you tired of suffering from the effects of a common cold or the flu? Why not try natural treatments that can give much more rewarding results than anti-biotic and prescription medicine, with less harmful side effects.

Below is a list of common ingredients that could be used towards relieving of common cold and flu symptoms:

1)    Ginger

This has been used through the ages to relieve all kinds of diseases. Ginger is a rich source of natural antibiotics. It might be a challenge to rely on something that does not come out of a bottle at first. The first step towards making it work for you is to be willing to give it a try. It will be something to get used to, but when you get into the habit of using it daily, you will notice your symptoms fading in 2 to 3 days. The following procedure can be followed: When you notice the cold symptoms: buy a piece of fresh ginger at your local shop. Fresh ginger is firm and full of juice. Cut it in small pieces and put it in a cup of hot water or tea. Let it stand for 2-3 minutes. The juice of the ginger will be released into the cup of hot water or tea, stirring the cup of tea will help this process.

2)   Cinnamon & Honey

The mixture of one tablespoon of honey with ¼-teaspoon cinnamon can be used daily for 3 days to relieve coughing and colds and to clear sinuses.

3)    Echinaforce

This is not in plant form, but can be obtained at any local pharmacy. It is an herbal remedy that is very effective at reliving cold symptoms. It is made of juices extracted from the roots and leaves of the Echinacea plant and it can be taken as drops or in capsule form.

4)    Vitamin C

This could be obtained naturally from citrus. Two Medium size oranges equal about 500mg of Vitamins C. When considering vitamins it is always preferred to use the organic option. Organic vitamins are more easily absorbed by the body than any other. If the season does not provide for easily finding oranges, ask your local pharmacist to provide you with organic vitamin C capsules.

5)    Zinc

If Zinc is taken while you have a cold or flu, it could shorten the effects by 2 to 3 days. Higher daily doses may show results faster. Natural sources of Zinc are seafood like oysters or crab. If you do not like seafood, you may turn to meat like roast beef, lamb and liver. Believe it or not chocolate is also a source of zinc.

6)    Raw honey

The regular intake of raw honey releases antibiotics into the body. Also, note that the use of honey in combination with cinnamon gives greater results.


The greatest benefit of using natural products as common cold treatments, instead of the usual prescribed antibiotics, is that the body recovers much faster, and there are no long lasting side effects. This is good news for sportsmen and women.
