Companion Gardening Planting

 

A list of some common garden vegetables with their companion likes and dislikes. Some plants are beneficial to each other and some just don't do well together. Planting a companion friendly garden will help control insects and give you a greater yield. So when you plan your layout keep in mind that some of the vegetables just don't neighbor well.


Asparagus:  Tomatoes, parsley and basil are a good threesome.

Beans: Do well with potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, cauliflower, cabbage, summer savory, and most other vegetables and herbs. Dislikes, onion, garlic and gladiolus..

Pole Beans: Likes corn and summer savory. Dislikes onions, beets and sunflowers.

Bush Beans: Does well with potatoes, cucumbers, corn, strawberries, celery, and summer savory. Don't plant with onion.

Beets: Are fine with onion, but not near pole beans.

Cabbage Family (cabbage, cauliflower, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts)  aromatic plants, potatoes, celery, dill, camomile, sage, peppermint, rosemary, beets and onions. Dislikes strawberries, tomatoes and pole beans.

Carrots: Likes peas, leaf lettuce, chives, onions, leeks, rosemary, sage and tomatoes. Doesn't neighbor well with dill.

Celery: Is good with leeks, tomatoes, bush beans, cauliflower and cabbage.

Chives: Are ok with carrots, but not peas and beans.

Corn: A corn patch is a great place to plant,  potatoes, peas, beans, cucumbers, pumpkin and squash.

Cucumbers: Likes beans, corn, peas, radishes and sunflowers, but keep them away from potatoes and aromatic herbs.

Tomato: Thrive with chives, onion, parsley, asparagus, marigolds, nasturtiums and carrots. doesn't neighbor well near potatoes, fennel and cabbage.

Eggplant: Grows well with any kind of beans.

Peas: Likes carrots, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, corn, beans, most vegetables and herbs. Dislikes onions, garlic, potato and gladiolus.

Squash: Is happy planted with nasturtium and corn.

Onion and garlic: Likes beets, strawberries, tomato, lettuce, summer savory and camomile (sparsely). Dislikes peas and beans.

Leek: Plant them with onion, celery and carrots.

Lettuce: Likes carrots and radishes, strawberries and cucumbers. (lettuce, carrots and radishes make a strong team when grown together).

Radishes: Likes peas, nasturtiums, lettuce and cucumbers.

Parsley: Likes tomatoes and asparagus.

Potatoes: Likes beans, corn, cabbage, horseradish, marigold, eggplant. Not so much pumpkin, squash, cucumber, sunflower, tomato and raspberry.

Pumpkin: Great with corn. But don't plant with potatoes.

Soybeans: Grows with anything and is helpful with everything.

Strawberries: Blend well with bush beans, spinach, lettuce.

Spinach: And strawberries are a great pair.

Sunflowers: Likes cucumbers, but not potatoes.

Turnips: Likes peas.
