Computer Backpacks - Twenty-First Century Utilitarian Style

By | Mar 24, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

As the three-piece business suit with the ubiquitous, dress-for-success red tie has virtually vanished from the day-to-day business community, the attaché case has relinquished its fashion statement to the backpack. The generation that has just graduated from university life has grown accustomed to the backpack ever since kindergarten. Now the backpack is moving to the forefront of computer style points. The once popular computer bag with its many compartments for CDs, peripherals, and extra batteries has been replaced with computer backpacks.

There are now quite a few different styles of computer backpacks. The best place to shop for them is online. Shopping at the big box retail stores will also net a few good choices.

Some of the things you need to consider when shopping for a computer backpack include:

  • The dimensional size of your computer -- Laptops vary in size from 15-inches x 11-inches x 1.5-inches to 18-inches x 13-inches x 1.5-inches. Notebooks come in sizes ranging from 10.5-inches x 8.5-inches x 1.8-inches to 11-inches x 10-inches x 1.5-inches.
  • The weight of your computer – Laptops will top the scale at twelve pounds for the largest sizes. Notebooks weigh in no more than seven pounds.
  • The various places where you might carry your computer. If you are a student, the consideration will range from what type of transportation you take to school, to carrying your machine from class-to-class, to after-school activities. A businessman may travel by commuter train or metro bus and then have a long walk to his office. Other businessmen may have a route to travel or customers to visit with presentations to make.
  • What else do you need to carry -- books, presentation books, calculators, office forms, PDAs (remember those), water bottle, etc.?
  • Style considerations may be what are in vogue among your peers to a more conservative look to impress a broader slice of customer.
  • There are some styles of computer backpacks that are more gender related than others.

The need for a computer backpack is basically easy of transportation and protection for your investment. If you have a long walk across campus or from the subway, you will need something that will not only keep the weather away from your laptop but will also make carrying it a comfortable experience. Another basic feature but quite necessary is a padded top handle for those times when you may not be able to throw the backpack across your shoulders.

Utility has moved passed beauty as far as the strongest stylish point today. Comfort has displaced fashion and whatever pleases you is more important than what others think has become the norm. Whatever your reason for purchasing, whether it be any of the available computer backpacks or a leather laptop backpack, there is definitely one that will fit your lifestyle.
