Firewood racks are used for firewood storage. If you have a wood burning fireplace, or wood burning stove, you need a firewood holder of some kind. A search on line reveals that firewood racks are available in any size or need.

Before firewood is ready to be used, it needs to be seasoned. You can let the wood stay where you cut it and pick it up after it is seasoned, or you can stack it neatly on the ground. The downside of using the ground for firewood stacking and storage, is insects. There are many insects the consider wood as part of their diet. It is best to use a firewood rack for seasoning storage.

Firewood racks are primarily used for seasoned firewood ready to be consumed. It is usually stacked in close proximity to the house for convenience. You could just stack the wood up against a wall, but this wood just invite termites and/or carpenter ants into your house. Firewood should be stacked away from the house and off of the ground. If you live in a fire hazard area, firewood should be stacked as far away from the house as convenient. You do not want any reason to have fire come to your house.

Stacking firewood without a rack can be hazardous. It the stack is not designed properly, it can come tumbling down on you. A firewood rack helps contain the wood stack so that you can stack it safely.

When looking for a firewood stand, durability and size are important. If you need outdoor firewood storage, make sure that you buy a stand that is designed for the outdoors, and not for inside. A firewood rack designed for inside the house will probably will not withstand weather very well. For outdoor use, compare how they are manufactured, constructed and finished. You may very well find certain brands to be better than others.

Size is also another determining factor in firewood rack selection. How much wood are you going to burn this winter? Are you going to have multiple stacks of firewood, or just one big stack? Perhaps you want a larger firewood rack away from the house, and a smaller firewood rack under shelter close to the house.

Finally, consider buying a firewood cover. This will help protect your firewood from the elements. With a firewood cover, you will be able to find a dry piece of firewood on a rainy day.
