Contemporary Pendant Lighting

By Edited Dec 31, 2015 0 0

Pendant lighting has really become very popular lately. It's one of the least expensive lighting fixtures that you can find. It really came on the scene when everyone was getting kitchen islands and then they needed to really create a focal point. It also adds a little bit of task lighting to your space.

One thing that you can really consider going with is going to be a steel fixture. This is often in more opulent materials in kitchens. When you choose pendant lighting for kitchens you want to make sure that it still gives you a cohesive look. This means that it should match all the other lighting that you have in your space a lot. If you have recessed pieces it really won't be a problem. At the same time it's also really important to make sure that this can coordinate with a lot of stainless steel appliances in your room. However, unlike a glass shade this is going to give a very soft touch to your space. A way around this is to go with more of a nautical style. It just uses a plain stainless fixture but then it has a really oversized bulb to it. You will need to be aware that sometimes bulbs can cost just as much as the fixtures so you really want to think of the long term expense.

Usually when you're shopping you'll see a lot of contemporary pendant lighting just because it is such a new style. However, you might want to make it feel a little bit more country. A great way to do this is going to be with more natural types of shades. This could be a wicker shade. These baskets kinds of fixtures are very popular but they are also some of the least expensive that you can really find. However, whenever you do use it an unusual material on any type of lighting you need to really check the warning labels to make sure that you get the right wattage.

Another option would be to go with a drum shade. This allows you to really add in a little bit of a whimsical touch to your lamp. It could even be in a checked fabric design, if you still want a country kind of look. Then it could just have white in it as well as whatever your accent color is so that it can coordinate with a lot of your tile and appliances. This is a subtle way to add pattern to your room and it's a lot more unexpected than just using it on your window treatments.

You're also going to see a lot of glass kitchen pendant lighting. This can be a way for mini pendant lighting to really be very functional. Traditionally this would just be a frosted glass or have a few amber tones to it. However, now you'll see more of just a clear glass where you can see all of the bulb. This is a very traditional material but it's done in more of a contemporary manner. It can also mimic a lantern. It's going to be one of the more expensive options but it is still pretty neutral so you can have it for quite some time.
