Back pain can be life changing in various ways. It can keep you from participating in your favorite activities, sports, hobbies, playing with kids, maintaining an active social life and can even keep you out of work. Some of the simplest everyday chores can become an impossible task such as doing laundry, dishes, preparing meals or even just getting out of bed.

It is crucial to receive a diagnosis of what the pain is caused from whether the pain is related to an injury, Sciatica, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, strains, spasms or even premenstrual symptoms. Your Doctor can determine the type of pain you are suffering from such as nerve pain, inflammatory pain, bone or joint pain and muscle, tendon or Fascia pain. You can receive care to fix the problem, opposed to solely keeping the pain manageable.

Massage therapy, hypnosis, acupuncture and acupressure may relieve pain but can become very expensive. There are many remedies for managing back pain to try at home. Allow yourself enough sleep and rest so your body has time to recover. Your body heals most while sleeping. In many cases chronic back pain can keep you up at night. Make sure you have the right pillows for your back and neck to remain comfortable and supported for a good night of sleep. Before going to bed (or at any time of day), you will need a relaxation routine. This routine should not relax only your body but your mind and spirit as well. Try a warm bath with Epsom salt, use aromatherapy, meditation, calming music, mild yoga and/or stretching.

Many Doctors these days will offer a prescription of painkillers, muscle relaxants and/or an anti-inflammatory. Although these can work for treating the pain temporarily, they can end up causing other symptoms, such as nausea or damage to vital organs, that will lead you to the consumption of even more medication.

Consuming natural vitamins and herbal supplements opposed to pain killers and/or muscle relaxants can consist of little to no side effects. Low levels of Vitamin D and Magnesium can be linked with increased chronic pain. Valerian Root and Magnesium are natural muscle relaxants that can even help with sleep deprivation due to chronic pain as well. Capsaicin applied directly to the affected area can relieve pain especially for Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Fish oil, Ginger, White Willow Bark and Turmeric can reduce pain caused by inflammation. Most of these can be found at your local health food store. You should always check with your doctor before taking any of these especially if you are on any prescriptions or over the counter medications.

Everyone has different variations of back pain and we all benefit from treatment combinations differently. You may have to try different treatments but once you find the alternative medicine that works for you, it is well worth the effort to maintain your health and keep your spirits positive. Control your back pain before your back pain controls you.
