About the King Crab

The King Crab is both a delicious and veratile cooking ingredient. Native to the icy cold waters of Alaska and surrounding areas, the king crab grows to huge size, which means big, succulent crab legs. It's because of the incredible table quality of the King Crab that many Alaskan, Norwegian, and Russian fisherman risk their lives each year in pursuit of them. The king Crab is so valuable that it is per pound the most valuable crustacean in the sea, even above the lobster! However some biologists believe overfishing is causing the overall decline in the crab's population. Because of this, many international treatise are in place in order to protect King Crab populations.

Cooking with King Crab

King Crab meat is firm, succulent, and has a slightly sweet flavor that many seafood lovers find irrisistable. Chefs all over the world rave about the quality of King Crab meat, as it is extremely versatile and is easily incorporated into a number of recipes. That is not to say that King Crab can't stand up on it's own as a main cource, far from it. Even simply steaming King Crab legs and serving them with some melted butter is considered a delicacy to many seafood lovers. King Crab meat is also commonly used in salads, soups, cakes, appetizers, and certainly main cources.

King Crab Recipes

The versatility of King Crab meat has led to the invention of several delicious recipes utilizing the ingredient. Some are more complex than others, but all showcase the fine qualities of this delicious seafood. Even the novice cook can make a delicious meal with King Crab meat due to it's ease of use and robust flavor. Here is a recipes to help get started cooking with King Crab:

Kinf Crab Cakes

Ingredients:

Eight Ounces Flaked King Crab Meat
Five Tablespoons Divided Butter
One Fourth Cup Chopped Onion and Celery
One Clove of Minced Garlic
One and One Fourth Cup Mashed Croutons
One Fourth Cup Mayonaise
One Lightly Beaten Egg
One Half Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
One Teaspoon Lemon Juice
One Eighths Teaspoon Pepper

Directions:

In a large pan simmer one tablespoon of butter, then add the chopped onion, celery, and garlic. Cover over medium heat, making sure to stir every so often, untill the ingredients become tender, then remove the pan from heat. Next, stir in the egg, worcestershire sauce, half of the crouton crumbs, King Crab meat, pepper, and lemon juice. Remove the mixture from the pan and form it into patties, coating them in the remaining crouton crumbs afterwords. Then in the same skillet, melt the other four tablespoons of butter. Cook the patties in the melted butter untill both sides reach a rich, golden brown. Serve hot with your favorite side, serves four.
