Even though I am well over my thirties, I am still a kid at heart. I still like to try fun and cool things when I take a vacation somewhere.
The country of New Zealand is lucky enough to be filled with places that are packed full of fun activities. I think it is something about the people living in New Zealand (me included) that push this outdoor and fun way of life.
Here are a few of the fun things you can enjoy in NZ listed in no particular order.
This has to be one of the craziest things to try but it is really fun! You get into an almost clear ball and roll down a hill. Actually it is a ball inserted within a larger ball where you slide around (as they put some water in with you) while it rolls down.Credit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trickkid/2415925323
They are rolled down specially made courses to ensure the decent is controlled. I would always recommend people try this in a proper Zorbing park, as it could be very dangerous if you try it elsewhere.
You may bump around a little while sliding down, so I wouldn’t recommend it for the elderly or people with long term injuries (such as back problems) but if you’re up for the challenge then it really is a lot of fun.
Jet Propelled Boats
I’m sure you have heard of speed boats but have you heard of jet propelled boats? Well in New Zealand we have a lot of them.
They are really cool and are available to try in many of the tourist destinations. If you can find one that offers a tour through a fast flowing river then you should get the ride of your life.
Only use a reputable company for this as these boats can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Try a Cycling Trip
We also love our bicycles in NZ, with many of us taking them on our mini breaks to explore the hilly roads and other beautiful parts.
The simplest way is to hire some bikes if you are just interested in a day’s trip. This can be a lot of fun.
Or another option is to sign up as part of a bicycle tour that rides through part of the country. It’s more expensive than simply hiring bikes but you get to ride with an experienced guide who (as long as he knows his stuff) will know the best roads and places to get the most out of the cycles.
Bungees and Giant Swings
One of the things we love to do in NZ is to jump off high places. Of course we do this with a way of getting down safely.
These range from skydiving and hang gliders but my preference is the classic bungee jump and giant swings.Credit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gogap/423485082/in/photostream
You will be able to find a number places in NZ that have these, many of them on the south island.
Soak in a Hot Spring
After all this fun, you will need something to do to relax yourself.
I think one of the best things is to soak in one of the many volcanic hot springs in New Zealand. They are many in this country but the most famous location is Rotorua which is a great place to relax for a week.
