Corfu History

Corfu has an extensive history that is extremely exciting and fun to learn about. To this day the natives are constantly celebrating their history with all sorts of fun events and festivals.

Now, you’re probably aware of how beautiful and relaxing a lot of the areas of Corfu are, but maybe you’re wondering just what it has to offer in the way of entertainment. Well, the options are plentiful and believe it or not, you don’t need a lot of money to have a great time. Most of the festivals are open to everyone and the festivities are inexpensive and extremely exiting.


One of the most popular times for local events and festivals in Corfu is during the summer. There are tons of different villages that hold unique and exciting events to celebrate their history and their heritage. July and August are the biggest months for these ‘paniyiris,’ as the locals like to call them, but there are events that occur all year long. These festivals and events can offer hours and hours of fun and excitement for you and your family. With all of the great things to do, there’s really not a lot more you could ask for.

Some things you can expect from these festivals is great food and plentiful spirits. This is a great time for any tourist to fully experience the thrill of the culture and get an eye for what the locals are really about; having fun. You can expect to hear wonderful live music and experience traditional dancing. Everyone is welcome at these festivals, even people who aren’t native to the area, so don’t be shy about joining in on the fun. Each of the many villages in Corfu has at least one festival per year and some of them can turn out to be very large gatherings.

There’s really something for everyone when it comes to these ‘paniyiris’ and even the kids will have a blast. Joining in on these festivities allows you to have a taste of the culture and the locals are more than likely to make you feel right at home. If you’re interested in learning about what the culture is all about, going to these festivals is the best way to do so. One of the very beneficial reasons for going to these events is the fact that you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to have fun.

A lot of the festivals are absolutely free to join in on; aside from paying for your drinks and food. The entertainment is great and everyone is sure to have a wonderful time. Instead of sitting back and taking in the culture, become part of it by visiting one of the many paniyiris within Corfu.
