Cosmetic Surgery Costs
Cosmetic surgery is not particularly cheap for most procedures. There are a myriad of factors that play into the final cost of plastic surgery and it can vary greatly depending on the type of procedure as well as the area of the body to be treated. Generally, the cost is made up of the surgeon's fee, anesthesia fee, and any overhead fee such as the use of the facility and equipment.
The most popular procedures will usually cost in the thousands. For example, the national average price for liposuction is around $2,500 to $3,500 and the average cost for a tummy tuck is around $6,000 to $8,000 while breast augmentation costs are around $3,000 to $5,000. Each procedure requires particular techniques and surgical methods that will put a limit on the price floor and ceiling for that particular procedure.
The area of the body to be treated determines how much work will be required of the surgeon. Larger areas will cost more but things like the delicate nature of some areas could also run up the costs. The surgeon's fee is what the doctor will charge for his or her service.
Other fees include the anesthesia fee which is determined by the dosage. Higher dosages will cost more for the drug as well as the board certified anesthesiologist required to administer the drug. The facility fee is charged to cover the clinic's cost of the operating room as well as any equipment used during the procedure.
For those who cannot afford to pay the entire cost up front will usually have the option to finance the cost of the plastic surgery procedure. Financing options are available through most clinics as well as individual financing companies.
