Cozumel All Inclusive Resorts: Cozumel Melia

By | Oct 8, 2010 | 2 Comments | Rating: 1

Cozumel is my favorite place to go in Mexico; specifically, the Cozumel Melia. The Caribbean waters are a crystal clear light blue, the snorkeling and scuba diving cannot be beat and the people are friendly. There are plenty of things to do on the island, but in my mind, a Cozumel beaches is one of the most beautiful places in the world to do absolutely nothing but admire the scenery (with cool, fruity beverage in hand, of course!).

Sunbathing in front of our all inclusive Cozumel resort!

We went last fall and were blown away by the island's beauty and small town feel. We stayed at the Cozumel Melia all inclusive resort; a place that we would love to visit again.

The all inclusive plan offers unlimited food and beverage, gorgeous beach front rooms (you can hear the waves crashing all night long!) unlimited use of beach and water sports equipment and even nightly entertainment.

Here's the run down on all things Melia all inclusive.

The food at Cozumel Melia
The food is served at three different locations at the all inclusive Mexico resort; there is a very formal dining area for which you must dress up (fun!) and you must make reservations. The food is served in 3-4 courses and wine is flowing nonstop. You are waited on hand and foot.

The most formal dining area is on a small island type lagoon (all right next to your hotel room and visible from your balcony) and it has a giant, eye-catching aquarium in the middle which softly lights the whole room. It's beautiful! This part of the Melia all inclusive is only open for dinner each night.

The second eatery is self serve and offers a different theme of food each night; sometimes Mexican, other times Chinese, and so on. They are open all day long and have a brand new line up of food for each and every meal; you will most certainly not go hungry and for the most part the food is very good; the flan is to die for!

The best part about this Melia Cozumel dining area is that they have fresh meat and fish of every kind available; cooked up in front of your eyes at your request. This huge dining area at the Melia Mexico is beach front and far from crowded; when we went we usually had the entire place to ourselves (it was off season but the place was so large it would be hard to feel cramped).

The last eatery is one that allows you to order from a menu at any given time of the day; burgers, fries, guacamole, it's all there for you and free of charge at the resort.

Beverages
Drinks are included at the Melia all inclusive, and there are plenty of tasty ones to choose from and scenic places to drink them in. There is a beach front bar at nearly all Cozumel all inclusive resorts, but there are so many at the Melia that just like with the dining experience, it is very easy to find a place where you can just relax and not be bothered.

There is a swim up bar at the Melia Cozumel where you can stare out over the ocean while you enjoy a fresh blended drink of your choice.

Here's a tip that we only caught onto on our last day at the all inclusive Cozumel resort; try the drinks that are on the colorful fish cutouts hanging over the hot tub bar. They are delicious, and best of all, completely covered in your all inclusive resort expenses.

Things to do at this Cozumel all inclusive resort
There are arts and crafts for kids each day, volleyball games, a dance club, shows that the Melia Cozumel hotel staff put on, Bingo, water aerobics, wind surfing lessons (yeah, free!), salsa dancing lessons, and more! It's all completely and ridiculously free. When you get to the all inclusive Cozumel resort, they hand you a schedule of all of the free activities; if you wanted to, you could stay busy all day long.

I preferred the laying on the beach, the open bar, the pickup volleyball games and the wind surfing, in no particular order! But to say the least, one would have a very hard time getting bored at this and resort.

Downtown Cozumel
We rode a taxi down to town in Cozumel, it was only about $7 for two of us from the Melia Cozumel. We did a day of mostly window shopping and sight seeing. The people are very friendly and pretty aggressive but respectful salesman.

While we were downtown, we came across a company that rented mopeds out for 24 hours for only $25. We decided to rent one to further tour the relatively tiny island (it is 8 miles wide and 29 miles long). What we didn't realize at the time and laughed at ourselves later for, was that we could have rented a beefed up jeep for only $5 more!

We rode almost the entire circumference of the island of Cozumel on a moped. Needless to say, by the end of the day we were sunburned and our bums hurt, but what an experience!

Here's what you need to know and where you need to go; whether you ride in a car, on a moped, walk, or crawl, you must see the Southern tip of the island of Cozumel. We rode for nearly an hour on our noisy little moped, my husband and I taking turns driving, looking a bit like the guys from Dumb and Dumber; we were getting tired from riding out all of the bumps in some of the rough Cozumel roads (again, moped; maybe not the best choice!).

We rounded the turn where you suddenly see the curvature of the Southern end of the island (see second picture above) and it felt just like we were suddenly at the end of the earth. The waves crash hard, and there's no land as far as the eyes can see. It is one of the most breathtaking coastlines that I have ever seen.

We loved Cozumel, and the Cozumel Melia was a great place to stay. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and likeable. I can't wait to go again!
