Crack Addiction and Detoxing from Drugs and Alcohol

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Most people who are addicted to crack cocaine have other problems as well. The vast majority of crack addicts also abuse alcohol quite heavily, for example. So if you or someone you know is addicted to crack and other drugs, then you will probably have to consider what your options are for detoxing from them.

Although crack is wildly addictive, there is very little withdrawal from the drug on a physical level. The majority of the process is psychological and in fact, if crack is the only drug you are coming off of, then you do not even need any special medical attention in order to get through it. It is a very mild detox process. But as I mentioned above, almost no crack addict is completely free from other substances, and the vast majority are also abusing alcohol. This complicates the detox process considerably because some other drugs, including alcohol, can be very dangerous or tricky to come off from. As such, those who suffer from crack addiction might want to consider going to a drug rehab center in order to get clean from drugs and alcohol. There are several advantages to doing so, but of course there is a cost involved which can be prohibitive in some cases. Many people cannot afford to go to treatment, especially if they do not have any insurance that will help cover it. Even with insurance, sometimes the copay itself can be quite prohibitive for some people. Treatment is not cheap but the cost of continuing to use is generally a lot higher. And unfortunately, a large part of the high cost of treatment has to do with the detoxing portion of it. One of the advantages of treatment is that you will get medical supervision while you are detoxing from drugs and alcohol. This is important because in some cases it is actually dangerous or even fatal to do so without any medical supervision. Another benefit of going to rehab is that you will probably be introduced to a residential treatment program while you are there that will teach you how to live without drugs and alcohol. This is the whole point of treatment, to get cleaned up and then find a new way to live so that you do not have to return to your old lifestyle of drugs and chaos. If you want to turn your life around and do something different then you are going to have to make some major changes. The easiest way to get a jump start on these types of changes is to check into drug rehab. From there you can start to live a clean and sober life and start doing some different things in order to learn how to live sober.
