Starting a Craft Business, can be a great way to channel your creativity and make money from a home based business. But where do you start?

The best way is to make a list of your hobbies. Things that you are passionate about. If you love to knit, put it at the top of your list. If drawing or painting is more your style, then put it on the list.

Once you have your list created. Take your top passion and try to brainstorm ideas of things to create. One way to do this, is research. Go to a local craft show, see what others are making. Don't go home and make the same thing, try to come up with something a bit different.

Try and create something that is nice to look at and useful. In this economy, if you are going to convince anyone to buy your creations, then it has to do something more than just look nice or sit on a shelf.

This is the hardest part when it comes to starting a craft business, what to make that will sell. The research can take some time. In addition to craft shows, check online, many people are selling their crafts online at sites such as Ebay etc. Get a good idea of what other crafters are charging for their creations.

Now you need to research the cost of the supplies you need to create your craft and the time involved. If you have come up with something unique, and you will enjoy making it, then you will succeed with your craft business.

Once you have done a trial run with your creations, then why not test the market before jumping in? Make your products and donate some to family and friends, and let them show them off at work etc. Word of mouth takes a bit longer, but is one of your best forms of advertising. If you sew clothes, make something for a friend, make it your best work, and have her wear it to work. Make sure she is armed with business cards that she can hand out when others admire your work. If it is a smaller craft like jewelry, make her a beautiful necklace that she can show off.

Friends and family will be your best supporters in the beginning, and if you give them your best work to show off, then you will get known and orders will come in. Not everyone gets the chance or time to get out to arts and crafts shows, so by seeing a beautiful craft at work or at family gatherings, you are going to the customer rather than trying to get the customer to come to you..

Now you can work from home and have your own craft business.
