Cuidad Quesada
To get to Cuidad Quesada you can fly into one of the two airports in the region. Murcia Airport is only half an hour's drive, and Alicante Airport will take you just slightly longer at 35 minutes. You can come in by car because Cuidad Quesada is just off the AP-7 motorway which will take you from both airports. The weather in Cuidad Quesada is excellent all year round. Hot summers lead into very mild, almost rain free winters. This weather is typical of the Costa Blanca region in general.
Although Cuidad Quesada is surrounded by some old Spanish towns, it has an unusual story attached to it. In fact the town of Cuidad Quesada didn't even exist before 1972. A local Spanish entrepreneur decided that he wanted to fulfill a lifetime dream. He wanted to build something that would be for locals and tourists alike. He did not dream of opening a supermarket or a bar, a hotel or a guesthouse, he wanted to build an entire town. And 30 years later, Justo Samper Quesada saw his dream become a reality when the town of Cuidad Quesada opened its official town hall in 1999. Señor Quesada started working on his dream with little more than his own two hands and lots of perseverance, yet he continued through some rough financial times and managed to build something which stands out as a splendid mark to the achievement that is possible if a dream is coupled with hard work.
Cuidad Quesada boasts a town full of opportunities to shop and relax. As you go through the impressive arches at the bottom of the Main Street that mark the beginning of the town, you will see several bars and restaurants. There are also a couple of supermarkets, any service station, a tobacconist, and a pharmacy. Cuidad Quesada is also serviced by a medical center and there is access to the brand-new hospital in Torrevieja. Other attractions in the town itself are the leisure center and the aqua park. The aqua Park is further back up the hill towards the town of Rojales, which is one of the oldest towns in the region. From here you can see views out towards Torrevieja, Torrevieja salt lakes, and the La Mada salt lakes. The La Mada salt lakes are now a tourist attraction after they received national park status in 1996, having previously received protection for the birdlife which includes beautifully colored flamingo.
You can venture out from Cuidad Quesada and head to the coast of Guardamar Del Segura with its award-winning beaches. Or you can head north into the old town of Rojales where you can visit the cave houses or take a walk along the Segura River. A trip further north into Alicante, Elche, and Benidorm will give you a taste of the city life. Or you can venture back towards the south where you can see the town of Torrevieja and even further south to the Naval city of Cartagena. If you are coming to the Costa Blanca on holiday or with a view to permanent relocation, you should definitely take the time out to see Cuidad Quesada.
