Cuisinart SS-700 Vs SS-780 - What's the Difference Between the SS-780SA & SS-700?

Comparison Review: SS-700 and SS-780

Cuisinart is an American manufacturer of food appliances known for making excellent coffee makers. The company started their operations by making food processors aimed at reducing the time for preparing food. Over the course of time the word Cuisinart became a generic term used to refer to food processors. In the year 1998, Cuisinart launched its first automatic coffee brewing machine which simplified the task of making coffee by a single cup brewing process. Their machines make it convenient to make coffee without the hassle of dealing with grinding coffee or changing filters.

The Cuisinart SS-780 (which you will  also see commonly referred to as the SS-780SA & SS-780PC) and SS-700 are two of the most popular models that use Keurig’s K-Cups for making coffee. These small cups hold the precise amount of coffee to yield a delicious cup of coffee or tea each time. In order to make a cup of coffee just set a K-Cup in the machine’s K-Cup basket, close the lid, and push a button to start the brewing process. Within a minute, hot coffee will pour out into your mug. They can also be used without a K-Cup for plain hot water for making hot chocolate or instant noodles.

Size & Weight

The machines differ slightly in dimensions. While the SS-780 is 13 inches in height, 16 inches in length and 14.8 inches in width, the SS-700 is 12.1 inches in height, 10.2 inches in length and 13.5 inches in width.  The SS-700 is the more compact out of the two, something that you may like to keep in mind if you have less counter space available.

Similarities between the SS-780 and SS-700

Appearance

Both the SS-78 and SS-700 look almost the same except for the difference in dimensions. Both come with a silver finish and have a boxy shape with contoured edges. The machines have a square-shaped LCD display in front with 3 switches for brewing, rinsing and hot water.

Removable Drip Tray

The removable drip tray is useful when you have a larger mug to fill in which case you can detach the drip tray from the machine and place your mug. It is also helpful while cleaning and makes it an easy task to remove the part and clean it.

LCD Display & Control Panel

An advantage with the SS-780 and SS-700 is the adjustable brew size. The sizes are shown with icons on the display and range from 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 ounces. It’s nice to have the machine measure the coffee for you. The LCD display also shows the time, brewing temperature and has a programmable on/off feature.

Sound Quality & Level

The Quiet Brew Technology incorporated in the machine ensures that you don't wake up others when you make your cup of coffee early in the morning.

My K-Cup

A thoughtful addition is the My K-Cup that can be used for making the beverage of your choice by simply putting the beans or powder in the cup and inserting it into the brewing chamber after removing the original cup holder. In any case you will receive a 12-cup pack of K-Cups with an assorted array of flavors with your purchase.

Water Reservoir & Purifier

You can also save yourself the trouble of refilling the water reservoir frequently as the large sized 80-oz water reservoir with these machines will last you several cups of coffee.
There is also a charcoal filter that comes with each machine which will keep the water purified while you make coffee.

How to Brew with a Cuisinart SS-780 and SS-700

Whether it’s the SS-780 or SS-700, the brewing process is simple and easy. First add water to the removable water reservoir, snap it into place, toss in a K-Cup of your choice, shut the lid and select the brewing size for the amount of coffee you want in your cup. In less than a minute, your coffee is ready for you to enjoy.

Cleaning up is a breeze since you only have to discard the used K-Cup into the garbage. It is such a relief not having to clean filters or exposed coffee grounds to spill in your trash and no coffee pot to clean. Moreover, you can utilize the rinse feature where -- whilst cleaning if you hit the Rinse button on the machine, it can be used to clean inside the brewing chamber to keep it clean after use.

Note: To ensure safety the parts of the machines that come in contact with water or coffee are completely BPA free.

Conclusion: Which Model is Best - Should I Buy a SS-780 or SS-700?

Both the SS-780 as well as the SS-700 have pretty much identical features. They make excellent coffee at the perfect temperature and the right consistency. The use of K-Cups makes it extremely convenient to make coffee from a choice of 200 flavors and pour it into cups in the same exact size as you want. If you have to choose between the two you can take a decision based on size as the SS-700 is a bit more compact than the SS-780.
