Curtain Rod Basics

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Curtain rods have definitely evolved through the years. There are many types of curtain rods to choose from. To aid you in your decision, try basing the type of rod to the type of curtain you want to hang. Draperies, sheers, café curtains all use a different type of rod.

Tension rods are probably the easiest to use and are best for recessed windows. They are made with a spring on the inside which pushes the rod outward. Rubber caps adorn the ends which push against the window sill. Because of this spring they require no hardware and are very easy to install. These rods are good for light weight curtains or sheers.

Sash rods and café sash rods are sold in flat or round designs. Because they are made to lie flat against the door or window, they are great for hanging door panels. Curtains used with these rods should start a little above the window and end a little below it. These rods are perfect for casement windows and French doors. The hardware includes shallow mounting brackets so the silk curtain lies flat to the door. The café sash rods are a little bigger in circumference than sash rods.

Café rods are a perfect choice for kitchen curtains. They come in many different sizes and they are ideal for café curtains. Some cafe rods may come with rings to which the curtains are attached but they can be bought without the rings. These rods are perfect for tab tie curtains or curtains which are easily pulled to one side or the other. Traverse rods are mainly used for living room or dining room draperies. They utilize a hook system for hanging curtains and allow for the drapes to be opened and closed using a pull cord. These rods can be highly decorative. The types of curtain rods available can be made from many different materials such as metal, wood, and wrought iron. The costs with each of these materials can fluctuate, especially with the many designer choices available.
