DIY Methods for Ridding Your Home of Termintes

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

If you are one of the many people who have had problems with termites, you will be happy to know that there are effective ways that you can get rid of them yourself, that are not too expensive or time consuming. Termites are resourceful little pests that effectively destroy wooden furniture they can get into, so it is helpful to know of ways to get rid of them quickly and efficiently.

There is a poison that can be set up around areas that termites tend to like, both in the house and out of the house, however, poison has a lot of disadvantages to it. If you set it up outside, it will invariably leak into the soil and contaminate it, also, termite poison is not too hard for young children and pets to get hold of as well and it is poisonous for them also. It should also be noted that poison is the most dangerous of the do it yourself ways to get rid of termites.

Most people who have termite problems, where they are attacking their furniture, such as cupboards or their corner wardrobe, prefer to use bait or stakes to get rid of them. Termite bait, while it does have toxic chemicals the same as poison, does not have as many chemicals to it and it is set up in such a way that children and pets cannot get hold of it, making it a lot safer to use. The way it works is that you set it up in the house and out in the yard where termite colonies are; the termites crawl on it, getting the poison on them. Termites like to groom each other and feed each other and crawl all over each other, so through this, they spread the poison to each other. It is not only a very effective way of getting rid of termites but also one of the cheapest.

The other method is termite stakes, which are also quite easy to set up, both in the house and outside in the yard. If you are setting the stakes out in the yard, you dig a shallow little hole and put them in; the best spots to put them in are close to spigots, mulch and sprinklers as these are all areas that attract termites. The stakes have poisonous food on them for the termites to come and eat but like bait, it is not a great danger to your children or pets. If you use the stakes method, be sure to check on your termites stakes every so often, to make sure that you replace them before the food on them is totally gone; also, if you notice the food has not been touched, you may want to move your termite stake to another area of the house or yard where it will be more effective.
