DIfference Between Miracle Whip and Mayonnaise

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 1

Ever walk through the store and wonder what the difference between Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip is? Many people have strong preferences and either desire Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip. They are used as sandwich spreads, salad dressings, and in numerous recipes. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, they require anything that is labeled "mayonnaise" to contain a minimum of 65 percent vegetable oil by weight. Kraft, which is the maker of Miracle Whip, does not release the information of how much oil is confined within a jar of Miracle Whip.

Both mayonnaise and Miracle Whip contain similar ingredients such as eggs, soybean oil, vinegar, and water but what sets Miracle Whip apart from Mayonnaise is its sweet, and yet spicy flavor that people enjoy most. It is said to contain more than 20 different blended spices. Neither one is really cheaper than the other, so bargain shopping won't do you any good here. It comes down to what you enjoy best. Miracle Whip is said to be among the food shopping industries.

A guy named Max Crosset in 1931 developed Miracle Whip in Salem, Illinois. He originally called it Mac Crosset X-tra Fine Salad Dressing but sold it to Kraft foods. Kraft decided to introduce it in 1933 at the Chicago World Fair putting the production process on display behind glass for the public eye to see the production of Miracle Whip.

I'm definitely a big fan of hellman's light. The "tangy zip of miracle whip" just isn't for me.
