If you have dry skin then you know you can’t just use any beauty product. Your daily skin care routine is very important as you will need special care to avoid further drying out your skin.
How to Know if you Have Dry Skin?
First signs are quite obvious, your skin appears and feels dry and flaky. When you wash your face and dry it, it tends to feel tight. Place oil blotting paper against your skin, if you find no oil appears then you have dry skin type.
Make-up Removal for Dry Skin
Use a gentle makeup remover, preferably oil based. Avoid using makeup removers containing alcohol as this will dry and irritate your skin. Pour it onto a cotton pad and gently wipe over your face. If you find stubborn spots especially under the eye area, use a cotton bud soaked with makeup remover to help clean off any remaining areas.
Cleansing for Dry Skin
Before going to bed wash your face using a soap-free cleanser. Foaming cleansers containing soap can strip away all the natural oil on your skin. Instead use a milky or cream cleanser. Gently massage it onto your face to remove dirt, excess oil and makeup. Then rinse off with lukewarm water. When you wake up if you can just splash your face with lukewarm water and skip using cleanser
Toner for Dry Skin
If you have very dry skin then it is probably best to skip toner. If you find you have a combination of dry skin and an oily t-zone you can use a toner on just the t-zone area.
Moisturizing for Dry Skin
You are going to want to look for a moisturizer that is really rich and creamy. A trick to locking in extra moisture is to smooth on your moisturizer when your face is still damp. Look for moisturizers containing the ingredients glycerine, dimethicone and hyaluronic acid, as these are very nourishing.
More Dry Skin Care Tips
Once a week at night use a lotion containing retinol or alpha-hydroxy acids as this will help to stimulate collagen production. Increase in collagen production will help to plump and smooth your skin.
To help get rid of flaky skin try using a peel off mask. Once a week or fortnight, apply a peel off mask to a clean face. Let it dry then gently peel off the mask. You will notice on the peeled off bits of mask, all the flaky bits of dead skin are removed and you will have fresher skin underneath.
Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat food that is high in vitamin. Water will help hydrate your body and some vitamins can improve skin collagen production and skin elasticity. Eat food that is high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Zinc.
Most important don’t forget during the day to wear a moisturizer containing at least SPF 15, last thing dry skin wants is sun damage.
