DeWalt Mitre Saw

By Edited Nov 7, 2015 0 0

A mitre saw is a versatile power tool which makes it easy to cut accurate miter joints. This power tool is usually referred to as a chop box. Basically, it is the evolution of the chop saw.

A chop saw is basically a circular saw mounted on a spring-loaded pivoting arm. It makes very precise and smooth cuts through wood, steel, plastic etc. A chop saw makes square cuts.

On the other hand, a power mitre saw has the motor mounted on a swing arm that pivots right or left to make angled cuts. So the traditional mitre saw is useful for making angled cuts, trimming pieces to length or shaving off fraction of wood.

Finally, a compound mitre saw is a circular saw placed on the end of a lever. All traditional mitre saws share similar functions, but a compound mitre saw is capable of making two cuts at one time, a miter cut and a bevel cut. It is more expensive than a power mitre saw, but the added convenience of one pass compound cuts is worth the money paid and features for the price are awesome. It is a big and potentially dangerous power tool. So the first thing you want to do is make sure you have safety equipment on. Safety glasses will protect your eyes from small fragments and help get the job done safely. Wearing ear protection or earplugs is also important because many power saws create a lot of noise that can be damaging to the ears.

Most compound mitre saws have a base assembly, turntable, cutting groove, bracket assembly, sawdust collection assembly, cutting assembly, and a blade guard. Blade guard automatically retracts as you pull the blade down. This feature keeps you safe at all times. If it has a laser guide, it will show exactly where the cut is to be made, simplifying the process.
