Dealing With Acne and Blackheads

Acne is a medical problem that can have a lasting emotional impact. It can cause the sufferer to lose their self confidence, to feel embarrassed and to withdraw from society. It seems extreme but it is true. Everyone wants to look their best and present a pleasing face to the world. Those who suffer from acne do not feel they can ever achieve that goal. Acne affect adults as well as the traditional teenager and it is serious business.

Everywhere you look there is a new acne remedy. There is big money to be made in the sale of acne solutions. The problem is no one product will work for everyone. Suffers get frustrated trying to work their way through the sea of potential solutions. It can be difficult trying to find the right cure for them. It is expensive and creates an emotional roller coaster of hope, disappointment and despair.

As a teenager acne develops as a result of the wildly changing hormone levels. Once those hormonal levels have quieted into a normal state acne can continue due to other origins. Many people develop acne as an adult. It generally occurs on the face, neck, upper back and chest regions. There are various reasons that acne develops. It can be as simple as an inconsistent cleaning routine to something more medically driven. There are many different kinds of acne as well.

Acne Solutions

Benzoyl peroxide is a mainstay in treatment. Salicylic acid is another popular ingredient. One solution or the other is found in most over the counter acne products. Both are equally effective but some people are allergic to one or both products.

More advanced acne may require a trip to the dermatologist for prescription medications. Sometimes the physician will recommend a cream and other times even a pill form of medication. You can also be assured that your acne is indeed acne and not another type of skin condition.

Early recognition and treatments are the key to being successful in controlling acne. You have to be sure it is acne and you have to treat as soon as blemishes start to appear. Be patient but if you have tried two or three different products with no visible results contact a dermatologist right away.

How to Treat Blackheads

Blackheads are pores that are clogged with sebum and cast off skin cells. This mixture hardens and oxidizes creating the tradition blackhead. The best way to resolve them is through a consistent cleaning routine. There are many over the counter products that will assist in clearing the blackheads quicker.

The goals for clearing out blackheads includes clear skin and avoiding infections in the blocked pores. Just like other acne products you may have to try several in order to find the one that works best with your skin. An acne remedy product does not have to be harsh to be effective. You will usually see results in one to two weeks.
