Dealing With High Dividend Stocks

By | Mar 14, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A lot of investors are turning to high dividend stocks to make more money from their investments. They provide a less volatile form of investment in stocks. These are stocks that pay out high dividends and are more stable in price. They provide a much higher dividend yield.

Top dividend paying stocks can be found scattered all over every sector. However, the best of these stocks can be found in the energy and materials sectors. Some of these companies due to the nature of their incorporation are required by law to pay out up to 90 of their profit to shareholders in exchange for corporate tax cuts.

high dividend stocks could also be because of under pricing. If a stock is under priced and the company performs well in that year, the dividend pay out will be high. Some companies that are facing problems can also result in lower share prices. Before purchasing any stock, check the health of the company. The level of risk should be properly analyzed before buying a particular stock.

Other reasons for high dividend stocks could be due to a general problem in the sector. This will affect all companies in that sector. Prices of stocks go down in a bad economy. A recovery within the year will result in a higher dividend payout for shareholders that bought stocks at lower prices. This is why it is important to know the stock that you are interested in buying. Without detailed information, an investor can easily make a wrong choice.

Some investors use the system of dipping in and out of a stock just for the dividend pay out. They look for top dividend paying stocks that are priced low a few weeks or months before the ex-dividend date and buy. This is not so good an idea for trading stocks. The dividend may be high but when tax and other fees are taken into consideration, it could amount to a loss of investment. This is even more pronounced if the stock becomes a lame duck.

A better method of finding high dividend stocks is to do a detailed analysis of a number of companies. Find high dividend stocks that also have a high probability of future rise in share price. This can be done only by taking careful look at the fundamentals of the stocks. Check out the history of the companies performance and the management style. Industry news and sector issues should also be taken into consideration.
