Deer Hunting 101

By | Sep 15, 2010 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

Forget about everything you know or knew about deer hunting and just listen up. In this post, I am going to get down to the bare bones, 101 tactics that every hunter should know of. Deer hunting has been a part of our culture for many, many years now , and the techniques for conducting the hunt have changed slightly for the better. When you get down to what really matters, the tactics are still basically the same. Our ancestors still used the same methods that we use today. Of course ours are a little more advanced, but the foundations are comparable.

The first deer hunting 101 tactic is to know the game that you are after, which in this particular case is the whitetail deer. In order to successfully hunt this animal, it is important to understand its habits and daily routines. As many of you probably guessed, this means knowing what they eat and drink, and where they do it most. Along with those two tips it is also a good idea to know where they bed down as well. With a good understanding of this particular material, one can learn to capitalize off of it. Yes, I mean hunting and harvesting deer. You see, if you know where they are going, then you know where to setup and you are more than likely going to be able to see them.

The next deer hunting 101 basic tactic involves hunting scent free. This is important because deer, as many of you already know are very good at smelling. Some experts say that they can smell like ten times better than a human can. Sure, that particular piece of data could be skewed either way, but you get the picture right? So it is important to use the proper scent control sprays and scents when out in the field.

The last deer hunting 101 technique that I feel should be covered is choosing the right area or piece of land to hunt. Remember that some areas or states hole more and bigger deer than others. In other words, you could spend the same amount of time and effort hunting in Georgia as you would in Texas and not see congruent results. In other words, some places are easier to kill bigger bucks than others. There are still other places where growing big bucks is just not going to happen without years of hard work and effort.
