Defining Success in Marketing

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

What makes a successful marketing campaign? The most obvious answer is to make a net profit higher than your initial advertising investment, but there are many ways to judge exactly how successful your marketing campaign has been.

Decide how you define success
You may not be judging success the same way in every marketing campaign, so it is important to define clear goals to make sure your company's money is well-spent. For each dollar you spend on advertising, how many do you want to make in net profit? Is there a target market that you feel you haven't been reaching, but would like to? You can decide on exactly what you want to achieve with a marketing campaign, and then use strategies such as surveys and tracking software to measure your success. You can keep track of sales made offline and analyze what markets you are reaching.

Create a company website
There is no reason for a company not to have a website. Even if you do not make sales online, a website is a cost-effective and valuable way to increase your company's visibility, and it can be extremely useful in marketing and deciding how well your strategies are working. A customer can visit your website at any time, even when your actual place of business is closed. Your website can allow them to easily give you feedback on your company, which you can use to decide how to best reach your customers.

If you print brochures, business cards or other promotional material, always include a URL to a website where the customer can find out more information. This is not only helpful to the customer, it can also help you to track their habits using software and customer survey forms. Even if the customer heard about your company offline, a website can be a powerful tool to learn more about your customers, and every business should have one.

Track your customers' buying habits
Once you get your customers onto your website, you can offer promotions or coupons to entice them to complete customer satisfaction surveys and other questionnaires which can provide insight into their buying habits and tell you where they heard about your company. You can also offer free mailing lists for customers to sign up for, and it is a good idea to offer promotions in these to make sure the customer signs up for and reads them.

Tracking software can be implemented into your website and into affiliate ads, so you can find out exactly where the customer found your link and decided to click on it. This can tell you what sites bring you the most traffic as well as what sort of advertising works best for your company. Once you find what brings you the most sales, you can decide how successful your marketing campaign and been and make adjustments wherever needed. Once you have decided what constitutes success for your campaign, use these strategies to find out how successful it has been and to adjust your marketing in areas where it has not been giving you the return on your investment that you intended.
