Derek Jeter Best Shortstop Ever

Derek Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey. His father was Charles Sanderson Jeter, and his mothers name was Dorothy. Charles had played some baseball in college, and Derek got much of his talent from his father. Derek moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when he was just 4 years old. Here is where is baseball journy began starting with his grandmother introducing him to the yankees at age 7. Derek was a star in little league. later on in high school Jeter played basketball and baseball. He earned All-state honorable mention in basketball. Derek had his best high school baseball season as a sophomore batting .557. As a junior he batted .508. As a senior Derek got injured in the first game rounding first suffered a severe ankle injury. Besides having this injury Jeter went on to bat .508 and only struck out once! Jeter was strongly scouted by the Houston Astros coming out of high school, but they decided to draft Phil Nevin #1 overall! Derek then was going to go to the University of Michigan, unless a team would offer him a 1 million dollar salary bonus. Jeter was drafted 6th overall in the 1992 draft to the New York Yankees. He signed a $800,000 contract. Derek spent 1992-1995 in the minor leagues. But on May 29th, 1995 Derek Jeter became a Yankee. Derek played 13 games that year batting .234 and making 2 fielding mistakes, and was later brought back down to Columbus(AAA). Derek Had a break out year in 1996 when he was announced the starter for opening day! Jeter batted .314 with 10 home runs, leading his team to a world series championship! Jeter's biggest stat came recently when he hit his 3,000 hit and became the first player in a Yankees uniform to do so. Derek is one of the biggest team players in all sports that is why he takes so much pride in his 5 world series rings which include 96,98,99,00,09. Derek Jeter is a 12 time all-star, 5 time gold glove award winner, and 4 time silver slugger award winner. Derek Jeter is one of the most humble guys you will ever meet. What is not to like about a man who keeps quiet and plays for his team? Derek is also known as one of the most durable players of all time, because he very rarely gets on the disabled list. Derek Jeter is the best shortstop ever to play the game. All you have to do is look at his stats. He is also by far the best fielder ever to play the game, he makes the most highlights out of anyone i have ever seen.
