Designing a Tranquil Sage Green Bedroom

By | Apr 14, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Green is a reflection of nature itself and is the perfect color for creating a calm and tranquil bedroom sanctuary. Green is a popular bedroom color for this very reason: Because it fosters relaxation and rejuvenation and reduces stress. Sage green is a particularly soothing shade of green and is a wonderful choice for a master or guest bedroom makeover.

To create a soothing space, sage green should be a predominant color in the room. You don’t necessarily have to paint the walls in green, although this is certainly an effective way to create a relaxing oasis. Even if the wall color is a neutral shade, sage green can have a major impact in a bedroom because it can easily be used in a bedspread or comforter, bedding accessories, window treatments and more. Here are some tips and ideas for creating a comfortable, comforting bedroom sanctuary with sage green.

Soft Sage Green on the Walls

If you want to paint the walls, a beautiful shade of sage green works beautifully with nearly any wood finishes in furniture, flooring or trim. In this sense, sage green works much like a neutral color, even though it is not technically a neutral. It also works well with carpet colors from oatmeal and taupe, through brown, green and some shades of blue. So if you aren’t changing everything in the bedroom, it is likely that there is a shade of sage green that will complement existing flooring and trim. Sage green also provides a beautiful backdrop for other bolder colors that you may want to use in accents and accessories: From cranberry red to rich gold, sienna, brown, tan, blue and yellow, nearly any color will coordinate beautifully with sage green.

Sage Green Curtains against Neutral Walls

If your walls are painted in a neutral color, like beige or off-white, and you prefer not to or can’t paint the walls, you can bring in large swaths of sage green with your window treatments. You can start with blinds or shades for maximum privacy and light control; then layer light colored sheer curtains on top. This will let you enjoy filtered natural light by raising the shades or opening the blinds. Add curtain panels with sage green as a final layer; rich sateen or brocade, tone-on-tone patterns, textured fabrics and more can be used to add the detailing and styling you desire. Pretty curtain rods with glass or wrought iron finials add more elegant detail and you can add tie backs to the curtains or let them puddle dramatically on the floor. If your walls are painted in a dark color, choose paler colors for window treatments to add contrast and keep the room looking bright and spacious.

Layers of Sage Green Bedding

You can create a rich, layered look by using graduated shades of sage green in the bedding. Sage green can be light or dark and a good approach is to use a gamut of sage green hues in the bedding. If the walls are light in tone, use a light shade of sage green for the sheets and go darker with each layer of bedding, finishing with the darkest variation for accent pillows on the bed. This will add definition and depth to the room. Conversely if the walls are dark, add contrast by finishing with the lightest colored bedding layers on top.

Finish the room with decorative wall art that reflects a serene vibe. From a muted sun metal sculpture to a framed landscape painting or contemplative nude metal wall decor, online decor stores have choices galore.
