Despicable Me 2 Is Coming!

In 2010, one of the top rated family films of all time premiered o the big screen. Despicable Me is the story of how love transformed an evil super villain into a puddle of mush.

Steve Carell is the voice of Gru, the top super villain in the world, until a young upstart named Vector steal the pyramids in Egypt with his shrink ray gun. Out of his mind with envy, he plans to steal the gun and when he gets it, he is going to steal the moon and dominate the world.

Along with his little yellow minions and his sidekick, Dr. Nefario (voiced by the brilliant Russell Brand), he succeeds and begins to create his rocket ship to the moon.

Along the way, he adopts three orphaned sisters (who were his ploy to steal the shrink ray gun from Vector). They teach him that evil is not the only way to be in this world. He unintentionally falls in love with them and by the end of the movie, they are become one happy family.

Why Produce Themed Games?

Aren't the orignals good enough?

One of the most obvious reasons that game manufacturer’s and movie production companies want to cash in on a movie’s success and make money. It also keeps the characters in mind long after the film has left the theaters.

I can tell you as a parent who has purchased these kinds of games for my childre

n in the past, they simply get a blast from seeing characters that they love. It adds another layer of enjoyment to the game.  The character versions of the game are also simplified, which permits familie with young children to play together.  Although my children love to play Monopoly now, they could not when they were younger.  But we did play The Disney Channel version of the game, which was aimed at their age group and took significantly less time to finsih.

Despicable Me 2 Monopoly Game

The game of Monopoly has been around since 1935. After the stock market crash and subsequent Great Depression, a salesman named Charles Darrow from Germantown, Pennsylvania, created a game based on his boyhood summers in Atlantic City.

After creating the game, his family and friends would gather in his home to play. Eventually, he began to sell copies of his game to the locals who played it. After bringing them to Philadelphia department stores and having them sell out, he wrote to Parker Brothers. Originally rejected, a twist of fate led Mr. Darrow eventually sell it and retain royalties to each one sold.

It made him a millionaire.[1

Over 275 million Monopoly games have been sold worldwide.  [2]

Among them are versions of the are that feature characters from movies and television shows. Hasbro has released a child-friendly version of this popular board game, which is just right for families of children who do not wish to spend hours and hours playing the game.

Instead of money, there are Banana Bucks. You buy and sell properties and use minions as game pieces. There are cupcake tokens, ice cream sundae tokens, as well as Chance and Property cards. It is for ages 5 and up.

Operation Silly Skull Game

What is Going on Inside of These Guys?

Baby Boomers like myself have many fond memories of playing the game of Operation. Players test their fine motor skills as they attempt to remove various body parts from the patient, Cavity Sam, without setting off the buzzer and lighting up his nose.

It was created in 1962 by John Spinello, a student in an industrial design class. He sold the design to one firm and then Milton Bradley turned it into the game children have played for the last several decades.[3]

Hasbro has put out many television and movie character versions of the game, and the minions have now joined the group. Instead of Cavity Sam, players operate on Stuart the Patient. Funatomy pieces include:

  • Unicorn Fluff
  • Nutty Noggin
  • Toxic Tongue
  • Banana Belly
  • Hammer Toe

Because of the small pieces, it is for children over the age of three.
