Looking for a way to cleanse your system and get back to feeling better then ever? You should detoxify with a juice fast that lasts 5 or 10-days. This is a perfect way to help clean out your body of all the harmful toxins that have been building up from all of the processed foods that you eat. I personally did a 10–day juice fast following some of the same directions below.
What is a juice fast?
A juice fast is where you commit to a certain amount of days that you get rid of eating food and replace it with fresh squeezed juice from fruits and vegetables. You will be drinking between 16 to 20 ounces of juice three times a day. You will also be drinking around 64 ounces of water throughout the day as well to help curve the hunger pains you might have in the first few days.
How can I detoxify with a juice fast and what does it feel like?
All you need to do is drink the juice and water daily. You will feel the toxins start to stir around inside of you. The first day can be a little trying to go through as you will feel somewhat hungry. The second and third days will better as your body starts to adjust to what you are doing, but expect to use the bathroom frequently. Usually on day four you will have headaches. This is showing you that you are truly trying to cleanse your body and the worst part is almost behind you. Day five and on you should be feeling pretty great by now. Majority of the toxins have left your body and you will have an insane amount of energy from drinking the juices. You will have just detoxified with a juice fast.
What are the benefits from detoxifying with a juice fast?
Once you have gone through day five you will start to feel great. You can expect to see an increase in your energy all day long. You will not have that sluggish feeling in the afternoon. Sleeping through the night and waking up feeling well rested is another bonus. You will lose weight fairly quickly as each juice fasting meal is only around 200 calories. Your skin will improve and your acne will look better.
What should my juices consist of when trying to detoxify?
When you are juicing you should always try to keep it at an 80% green colored fruits and veggies to colored ones. You can exercise while on a juice fast and if you decide to do so, then I would suggest incorporating beets, since they can increase your stamina. Also carrots are good for clearing up your skin and avocados help replenish depleted vitamins in your system.
One of my favorite recipes to use while juice fasting is taken from the film, “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” and it is called Mean Green. The ingredients below, but you can also check out these great juicing recipes too.
Mean Green Juice Recipe (makes 20 oz)
1 Inch of Ginger
6 leaves of Kale
4 Celery Stalks
2 Green Apples
What will I need to make the juicing detoxification process easy?
You will need a juicer for all of the fresh fruits and veggies. This part is extremely important as some juicers do different things to extract the juice. I prefer a Breville Juicer, as it is affordable and very easy to use/clean.
Next you will need storage jars for the juice you want o keep over night or through the day. These will be masonry jars that will seal when you put them in the fridge filled with juice. The cold will help lock in the freshness for 24 hours. I would not recommend drinking a juice after 24 hours, as all of the nutrients can be depleted and it might taste sour.
The only other ingredients you will need will be your fruits and vegetables. These should be organic, but don’t have to be. If you don’t buy organic, then thoroughly wash them and if you want peel the skin on the vegetables. This will help get all of the disgusting pesticides off of them and ready to be juiced.
Getting you to detoxify with a juice fast following these steps will put you in a more ready state of mind. I am not going to lie, the first few days are hard, but if you can get to day 6 and beyond you will experience a bliss that you haven’t felt before. I personally think it is mind and body experience that you will enjoy and will want to do more times in the future. It is interesting to go through all of the different feelings related to a low calorie fasting diet, but it can be well worth it in the end.
