How To Buy Diamond Necklaces
Choosing the right diamond necklace is extremely important. When making a purchase with such gravity you need to take into account many things. You need to be both careful and wise. You should also really consider what the occasion is whilst purchasing diamonds. Because diamonds are so beautiful and long lasting they make an excellent gift for your wife, girlfriend, or other loved on occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. I believe the fact that diamonds are so long lasting, they make a perfect symbol for love. When you are purchasing a diamond necklace for yourself however, you can simply choose the type of necklace that appeals to you.
The shape and design of a diamond necklace are very important and should be taken into great consideration before taking the dive and making your purchase. Diamonds can have many different cuts, colors, shapes, and weights which can easily effect the design of the particular necklace. On top of that, it gives you a very good amount of choices. Though depending on a lot of factors, this can make it much easier or much harder for you to find the perfect necklace. All of the factors that go into the design of a necklace not only effect the final look of a piece of jewelery but they also give it its 'soul'. The soul of the necklace must lend itself well to your own personality and style.
The majority of jewelry stores you will come across will carry a huge variety of diamond necklaces. They can range greatly in price and style. Generally speaking, the size of the stones is the determining factor of the price tag. A necklace with many small stones can actually be cheaper than a necklace with one large stone, this is due entirely to rarity. There are many different categories that diamond necklaces may fall into. Some of the most common are diamond trilogy, diamond drop, diamond wish bone, diamond gemstone, small drop diamond, diamond solitaire, diamond pendant, and diamond choker. On top of that, there can be many different shapes. Some of the most popular are stars, hearts and crosses.
One of the biggest things people tend to have problems with is whether they should buy a necklace with a diamond pendant or to actually buy a diamond necklace. Historically speaking, people have usually preferred diamond necklaces. For example, the Hope fDiamond, which is a blue diamond that has become the most famous diamond in history, is currently sitting in a very elegant looking diamond necklace. It is quite possibly the epitome of all diamond necklaces. It has set a standard that quite possibly will never be broken.
The main difference between a diamond pendant necklace and a diamond necklace is simply where the diamonds are held. A diamond jewelry necklace generally has diamonds spread throughout the necklace strand. A diamond pendant necklace will have all of its diamonds only in the pendant. The necklace portion of these is often a simple gold necklace or silver necklace, which is beautiful in itself but doesn't have any diamonds actually on it. On the pendant however, which is often also made of gold or silver, you will find a few stones. It isn't uncommon to see gemstones such as a ruby or sapphire sharing space with the diamond on these pendants. Both of these styles are definitely both beautiful and elegant, but they are a completely different style. You will have to decide which style fits the occasion of the necklace better. Most people consider diamond necklaces to be a lot more formal and a diamond pendant necklace to be much less formal. It may not be the type of thing you wear to work, but works much better in a semi formal occasion.
The length of the necklace is also often in contention as well. You can either get a chocker necklace or a full length necklace. A chocker, of course, is a type of necklace that hugs the neck closely. It is a very different look from a full length necklace. The general consensus among jewelers is that choker diamond necklaces look a lot more elegant on women with long slender necks, while full length necklaces generally look better on women with shorter or thicker necks. Chokers can still easily be worn by people with short or thick necks, they should just wear chokers that are much thiner. If the choker has a pendant on it it will also add to the elegance. The addition of a pendant has a noticable lengthening effect on the women's neck.
It is commonly believed as well that tall people can easily wear longer necklaces than short people. They will almost always be able to pull of anything from a choker to a full lengthen necklace with a chain measure as much as forty inches or more. A full length necklace often emphasizes hight while a choker will emphasize the women's neckline and face. A longer diamond necklace will also allow an average sized women to easily compliment her clothing because it draws some of the attention downward. On the other hand, if a women is a plus size then longer necklaces can give her a lengthening effect. The same effect can be used on shorter women as well. A necklace with a slightly longer necklace-one in the range of eighteen to twenty four inches, will make her appear a little bit taller than she actually is. Older women who have began losing their youthful appearance also like to wear longer necklaces because it takes away some of the focus from their neck and face. A pendant necklace can also do this as long as the pendant is hanging from a long chain rather than a choker.
Facial shape is something that should also be taken into account whilst buying a diamond necklace. The shape of her face will have the biggest effect on the length of the necklace. Women with faces which have a more round face as opposed to a slender face should wear longer diamond necklaces. Longer necklaces give women with rounder facial features a lengthening effect. A short necklace, or a choker, can have the opposite effect and magnify the roundness of the women's face. Women with oval shaped faces will have a lot more options. They can usually wear any length necklace without any problem. No matter what you look like, a diamond necklace, if chosen properly, will enhance your best physical features and make you elegant for special occasions.
If you are looking for a diamond necklace on a budget there are a lot of things you can do. Rather than buying a normal diamond necklace it would probably be a better idea to buy a diamond pendant necklace like was discussed earlier. In the industry these are most commonly known as diamond solitaire pendants. These often have a single diamond which has been mounted on a 14k gold, or similar material, basket mounting. This is then hung from a modest chain.
The first main piece of advice for finding a cheap diamond necklace, is to find the right size of diamond. It is very hard to judge a the way a diamond looks and figure out how much it weighs. There are a few easy ways you can visualize the diamond to get the right weight however. You can start by comparing it to a pencil eraser. Generally speaking a 1 Carat diamond will have a similar diameter on its flat face to the top of a pencil eraser. This will be similar to a quarter of an inch or six and a half millimeters. Even on a choker length chain a diamond of this size will easily draw attention and give the women wearing it a higher status. The quality of a diamond this size can vary considerably, but it should almost always fall in the range of twelve hundred to five thousand dollars. This may sound expensive at first, but is very modest when you consider what you are actually getting.
If this is still too much money for you however, there is still hope. Just about any size of diamond can still look both elegant and beautiful when placed on the right necklace. Before you actually make a purchase however, there are several other guidelines you should consider other than the ones we have already discussed. When it comes to diamond size, a women who is under the age of 24 and one who is past her late thirties should probably wear different sizes of diamond. A women who is under twenty four years of age should consider getting something more in the range of a 1/4 Carat diamond. This will look more appropriate than any other sizes. If the women is older, say in her late thirties, then she could wear a diamond that is more in the range of a 1/2 to 3/4 Carat diamond.
Of course, personality of the women should also be considered. Women who are more extroverted can look appropriate wearing much larger diamonds than a women who dresses considerably more conservative. Small stones look much better with minimalist fashion, especially clothes that are primarily black and white. Women who are extroverted and wear much brighter and more vivid colors will look a lot more appropriate wearing larger diamonds.
The second thing you should consider when trying to buy a quality diamond necklace on a budget is the cost of the diamonds versus the quality of the diamond. The easiest way to do this is to become familiar with the GIA rating scale, which will give you a much better idea. A in depth look at this would be beyond the scale of this article, so I will stick to a introduction. The main determined factors are color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. These are usually called the Four Cs.
The first part of the GIA rating is the color of the diamond. I believe that the best value is G-H-I. There are much higher grade colors on the scale such as D-E-F but this will most likely cost atleast twice as much. The best part, is that the average person simply cannot perceive the differences in diamond quality above the G-H-I level. This is especially true at a distance. On the other hand, if you are tempted to buy diamonds on a lower color grade (the J-K range and bellow) they will have a noticeable dirty yellow cast.
When it comes to the clarity of the diamond you only need to look for something rated SI or higher. These diamonds are what is usually called 'eye clean'. This means that the differences can only be noticed when you look at the diamond under magnification, and I don't mean with a magnifying glass. They will need at least 10-power magnification. Because of this, there isn't really a reason on earth why you should buy a diamond with a rating of VS or higher. Arguably however, the best value are I1 clarity diamonds. These have minute white crystal inclusions in them. These will not be noticable to the average person and there can be a jump in price between a I1 and a VVS diamond as high as four hundred percent. It just isn't worth it. You should avoid diamonds with a clarity grade of I2 or I3 because most of the diamonds that fit into this category will have a dull or cloudy look.
Diamond cut is very important however. You should always look for a diamond with a cut with a grade of Very Good or Excellent. No matter what other characteristics a diamond has, if it has been cut poorly it will look lifeless. Even the glorious Hope Diamond would look awful if it was cut poorly.
The last thing you need to think about is the style and length of the chain that comes with the diamond necklace. A lot of retailers will include a chain with their diamond solitaire necklaces that has a length of eighteen inches with half millimeter chain links. This is because it lowers their costs to include this chain with all of their pendant necklaces. This can be a very poor choice however. These types of chains have a bad tenancy to break easily and it can be too short on some women.
When it comes to style there are a lot better choices. I would suggest a twisted rope chain or box link chain. The twisted rope chain should have be 1 to 1.75 millimeters and the box chain should have links of 1 to 1.5mm. If you are going for something even more elegant however, a 1 to 2mm snake chain would be an even better choice. A high quality chain is well worth the price. It will be much cheaper to have them include a different chain than to get an entirely different diamond necklace. The new chain will also hold up much longer, which lowers you chances of losing your expensive diamond, and they truly enhance the way the diamond necklace looks.
