Getting a six pack is a process with two major steps; First eliminating excess body fat and second developing the belly muscles. It may sound simple, but the first method alone has caused a lot of people to give up the idea of getting those hard gorgeous lumps.

Aside from the fact that getting a six pack is quite a challenge, people give up because they do not know where to start. If you are one of those people, let me help you out. Learning how to get a six pack is no rocket science. It is challenging but all it takes is commitment and hard work. Six pack abs are achieved by eating a balanced diet and doing regular exercises. But for a start, you must first master the art of healthy eating.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and Veggies are on every dieter's menu because they are packed with vitamins and minerals and they contain very few calories. In other words, they are considered as the healthiest food you can find. A bowl of fruit or vegetable salad could only contain as much as 100 calories depending on the dressing. If you opt for a salad diet, do not put mayonnaise or any other heavy cream because they contain high amount of calories; use lemon juice with a dash of salt and pepper or little amount of cottage cheese instead.

Have some lean meat

Though going on a strict veggie diet would help you get a six pack abs, the process could be hastened by eating lean meat. Lean meats are rich in protein, which is a nutrient responsible for the proper functioning of the antibodies, regulation of hormones and enzymes, and most importantly, for the growth and repair of the muscles. Thus, eating protein rich food will greatly speed up the process of getting a six pack abs.

In eating protein foods, you do have to watch out for those that contain high amount of fat. The best way to handle this is by removing the fat tissues attached to lean meat and by skipping the skin of chicken and turkey. I understand it's quite hard because all the flavors are on those fatty parts, but trust me, it's all worth it.

Drink low fat milk

The calcium from milk is very important in strengthening your bones, especially your spine. Strong bones are essential when you opt to attain a six pack because you would be working out a lot for your muscle toning exercises. Furthermore, strong bones allow you to have a stronger support for those abdominal muscles. Since whole milk contains high amount of calories, you may drink low calorie alternatives such as skim milk and Soya milk.

Eat small amounts of carbs and fat

Carbohydrates and Fatty foods are associated with weight gain, thus it better been avoided by those who want to attain lean bodies. Carbs and fat are a great source of energy but eating too much of it could cause body fat. You need the energy from these food groups to successfully perform the workouts on your fitness program.

Six small meals instead of three large meals

The body can efficiently digest the food and absorb the nutrients if you eat in small portions. Furthermore, small frequent feeding also speeds up the metabolism of the body, thus you lose body fat faster.

Keep the body hydrated

Water is essential for the body organs to function efficiently. This means, if the body is dehydrated, the organs which are responsible for the process of converting calories to energy, toning the muscles, and developing a six pack slow down.

Learning what to include, what not to include, and how to handle your diet is just the first phase to get a six pack; how long does it take to get a six pack depends on how hard you are willing to try, however a careful diet will greatly help in speeding up the process. But then again, you need to include regular exercise and the right attitude to get that wonderful six pack abs.
