Diets That Work Without Causing Harm

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 4

The subject of dieting and diets that work is one of the most miss-understood; most abused subjects on the internet. It seems everywhere you look someone is trying to sell you something to help you lose weight. I want to talk about the fact that there are some diets that will help you to not only lose weight but increase your overall health and energy as well.

Now when we are talking about diets that work we first need to define what it is we want our diet to do. Whether we consider a diet to work effectively or not depends on what it is we are trying to accomplish at the time. For this reason I will list a few diets that are effective in at least one area or more.

Diet number one: Raw foods diet. Now many people might argue that you could live and should live on this diet for the rest of your life. I'm not sure this is the most exotic wisdom, I personally like to eat some meat and cooked food, not to mention the fact that others would argue that over time you could become seriously deficient in some nutrients. These arguments aside I do believe that if your primary objective is simply to lose weight, this diet is highly effective. Eating raw foods also has the added benefit of cleansing the body quite thoroughly. I lost thirty pounds in thirty days before I quite due to meat addiction.

Diet number two: Atkins. The Atkins diet is somewhat controversial and there are good arguments on both sides. I do believe however, that the Atkins diet is great for helping people to break there addiction to carbohydrates, most specifically, simple carbohydrates. While it is true that not every simple carbohydrate is "bad for you", unfortunately the majority of them are overly consumed and offer very little if any nutritional value. Add this to the fact that most simple carbs have a negative impact on the body's insulin response and you have a good reason to find a way to break the addiction to these types of carbs. The Atkins diet is one way to do this, though I personally would not stay on this diet any longer than was necessary to break my addiction.

Diet number three: The Mediterranean diet. This is by far my favorite choice. The fact that this diet is one you can easily, healthfully, and tastefully stay on for the rest of your life is why it is my favorite pick. Eating lean meats in moderate portions along with tons of fruits and vegetables are some of the reasons the diet is so healthy. Others reasons are that the food is mostly grown locally, the food is very fresh and the primary cooking oil used is extra virgin olive oil, a heart-healthy oil. The Mediterranean diet is really a way of life. Food is a big part of the community and people put a lot of time, effort, and love into the preparation of the food, a far cry from you local fast food restaurant.

Overall, there are obviously some ways of eating that are better than others, not only for losing weight but for taking care of all the bodies needs. It seems that if you do it right, you will also receive all of the emotional benefits as well. The moral of the story is that the diets that work are going to usually be the ones most in tune with nature, preferably in the local environment.
