Different Beds Provide Different Sleeping Experiences

If we are getting the amount of sleep our bodies need, we are spending one third of our time in bed. That makes our bed the most used piece of furniture in our home. It is no wonder that we spend so much time and money decorating our bedrooms and choosing beds that will enhance our style of living. Furniture manufacturers have stepped up to the plate by designing and building beds of every style imaginable in a wide price range, from cheap beds to very expensive and elegant beds.

Almost all styles of beds come in sizes twin, double, queen, king, and California king. Many kinds of woods and metals are used. Beds are designed in contemporary, colonial, southwestern, Asian, and other styles. Whatever style you want, you can find with a little searching. Some of the kinds of beds that are popularly sought today are platform beds, sleigh beds, forged iron beds, loft beds, waterbeds, and various kinds of children's beds including children's car beds.

Platform Beds

Platform beds are beds made up of solid or slated boards on a raised platform. The mattress lays on the platform, eliminating the need for a box spring. These beds usually have a very contemporary look.

Sleigh Beds

Sleigh beds have a headboard and a foot board (though the foot board is optional) with a curve, which adds softness to the dÃ©cor of the bedroom. They come in wood designs and metal designs. A sleigh bed I saw recently was upholstered in leather.

Forged Iron Beds

Forged iron beds are hand molded by talented craftsmen to resemble the popular beds used in the 1800's. Designs are created by pouring melted iron into molds, which are welded onto the bed frame. One company manufacturing a quality forged iron bed is Wesley Allen located in California.

Loft Beds

Loft beds are platform beds that are raised to allow space under the bed to be used as living space. A ladder is used to get up to the bed. The space beneath the bed can be used as a study area, with a desk, computer, bookcases, and drawers. Units can be purchased to include all this. The space could be used for comfortable seating for a reading area or place to relax and listen to music. In a child's room, it could be a play area.

A bed is an important purchase. You need to give time and thought to find the bed that will meet your needs.
