The following are a few home remedies you can try with simple products you may already have in the house.

White Vinegar - White Vinegar is a great neutralizer for pet urine smell. Simply mix one part vinegar with one part water and put on the spot. Let is soak for approximately 30 minutes and then blot up with a white towel or paper towels. (Try to avoid using colored towels because you do not want to transfer the towel color to the carpet or upholstery.

The area might smell like a little like vinegar while it dries, but when dry the smell should be gone completely.

Coffee Grounds - Dry unused coffee grounds also have the unique ability to draw out the smell of pet urine. Simply cover the area with dry, unused coffee grounds (but keep pets away, because consumption of coffee grounds could be harmful to their health). Leave the coffee grounds on for approximately 12 hours, then simply vacuum away. The smell should completely come up with the grounds.

Listerine - Listerine is another household product known to be effective for removing pet urine odor. Be careful however about putting this on lighter carpets or upholstery, because you do not want to cause further staining. Mix 1 part Listerine with 2 parts water and spray on the area. Let sit about an hour then soak it up with white paper towels or a white towel.

Store Bought Products

While there are many products available on the market to remove both the smell of pet urine as well as the stains left behind, unfortunately many are ineffective for complete removal.

Each of these products can be found either online or in major drug or hardware stores. They might be a little more expensive but they have been proven to be the products that work the fastest and to be the most effective.
