Different Types of Small Refrigerators
A small refrigerator can refer to a wide range of appliance sizes. The smallest group is commonly known as compact cube refrigerators. Then there are midsized refrigerators which are larger than the compact cubes but are smaller than the largest of small refrigerators. Then there are small refrigerators that are large enough to include a special function like ice makers.
Compact cube refrigerators are often used as beverage refrigerators because they tend to be too small to hold anything more than drinks and small snacks. These units range in size from novelty items that hold a single drink to approximately 4.4 cubic feet which features a half width freezer compartment.
A midsized refrigerator is anything from the compact cube to 10 cubic feet. Typical models are approximately 8 cubic feet with full width freezer compartments at the top. These units have just enough space to be used as the only refrigerator for some people such as college students or early bachelors who do not have a lot of groceries.
The largest of small refrigerators are sometimes known as apartment sized refrigerators. These are usually just less than 18 cubic feet which is the upper limit to a standard sized refrigerator. As its name suggests, apartment refrigerators are most often used in apartments or homes with small kitchens that cannot comfortably accommodate a full sized refrigerator.
There are energy star small refrigerators that are large enough to offer specialty functions such as ice makers and separate freezer compartments. The extra storage space is really the greatest convenience that larger units offer and the separate freezer compartment is something that makes these the best substitute for full sized refrigerators.
Cheap small refrigerators are great for anything from office spaces to college dorm rooms to a large single family home. When the need for refrigeration is small they serve the purpose and there is one size for every occasion.
