Direct Hair Implants For Women

By | Jul 22, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Women have problems with baldness just like men do. It just seems that women have always tried to keep it quieter. Men feel not as worthwhile when they are losing their hair but the feelings are even stronger in a woman. I remember my Grandmother wearing wigs all the time because she was trying to cover up her bald spots. Of course nobody said anything about her hair loss and I never would have know if I didn't happen to see her one morning without a wig on. She literally lived in wigs.

Happily it is no longer taboo to talk about hair loss for women. In fact, there is even a name for patchy baldness in women, Female Pattern Baldness. Like Male Pattern Baldness, FPB is a condition in which the natural hair falls out of the scalp in patches and does not grow back naturally. Men have been able to get hair implants, or hair plugs as they used to be called, since the 1950's but the technology was not available for women.

This has changed with the new Direct Hair Implants method of hair implants for women. With the old hair implants method a patch of scalp with thick hair growth was needed as a donor area for the hair that would be implanted into the bald area. A surgeon would remove a strip of this scalp with hair growth and then suture up the resulting incision. A trained hair technician would then remove the hair follicles individually from this section of scalp. The follicles would next be cleaned and prepared for the surgeon to place them into the bald area. This method was very successful especially since the 1990's when micro-surgical techniques were applied. The draw back to this method was the need for a donor area with thick hair.

This was a problem for women because they tend to have thinning hair along with patchiness. Often times it was impossible to find a good donor area with thick hair growth. To counteract this problem Direct Hair Implants were developed. In this method individual hair follicles and shafts are removed from the scalp or other parts of the body and then each is individually inserted into the bald spot. This means hairs could be removed from several areas so that no area appeared to be thinner than before. This procedure also allows hair follicles to be transplanted from areas of the body other than the scalp. The resulting hair tends to mimic the natural hair texture on the head but it is usually not used at the hair line.

These Direct Hair Implants meant women now had a very viable method of regrowing hair when they suffered a loss of hair growth. If you are experiencing patchy baldness find out all you can about these implants. You'll be happy you did.
