Disney's Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World

By | Dec 20, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Disney's Pop Century Resort, located in Orlando, Florida, is a 2,800 plus room value resort in Walt Disney World, and is the largest value resort currently at Walt Disney World. The resort is ideally located near the Epcot theme park, Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park, Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and Disney's Boardwalk, and sits against the beautiful Hourglass Lake, across from another future value resort, the nearly 1,900 room Disney's Art of Animation Resort, that is scheduled to open in 2012.

HOTEL and ROOMS

Disney's Pop Century Resort is one of four value resorts currently at Walt Disney World, and each is themed to its respective namesake. Whereas the Pop Century Resort is themed after decades of American pop culture, from the 1950's through the 1990's. The resort is split into sections (decades) and each building, set in a motel style setting, features items iconic of that particular decade, and represented in gigantic fashion, but not tasteless in any way, such as a huge jukebox (in the picture above), 45 records, and more from the 1950's. Hippie flowers, peace sign, and more from the 1960's. 8-track tape staircases, a giant Mickey Mouse phone, and more from the 1970's. A giant Rubik's cube, Michael Jackson, Pac-Man, and more from the 1980's. A giant laptop, giant cell phone staircases, hip-hop, and more from the 1990's.

The Pop Century Resort consists of over 2,800 nicely appointed and themed rooms, though not flashy, being that this resort is a value resort, and not nearly as appointed as the moderate or deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World. Each room offers bright, warm and inviting colors, and just about everything you need while staying in Disney. Really, how much are you going to stay in the hotel room in anyways, being that most, if not all guests go to Walt Disney World to visit the theme parks, water parks, golf courses, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the shopping, and sightseeing, and not the hotels. It is also perfect for those looking to visit Disney on a much more manageable budget, as opposed to the much pricier moderate and deluxe resorts located at the Walt Disney World resort.

All rooms at the Pop Century Resort have high speed internet access (for a fee), television with cable t.v., in room safe, hairdryer, iron with ironing board, and more.

There are several amenities at the resort that include laundry facilities, a concierge desk, babysitting services, self parking, and plenty of accommodations for individuals with disabilities, from handicap parking spaces to wheelchair accessible rooms and bathrooms.

RECREATIONAL AMENTITIES

If you are not wanting to venture out into the theme parks, or any of the other myriad of fun things to do at Walt Disney World, and/or just wanting to relax at the resort and find some activities to do there; then the resort has you covered with a huge assortment of family friendly recreational activities from which to choose from, such as bike rentals, jogging trail, an arcade, a playground (located in the 60's section of the resort), 3 pools (the main pool is the Hippy Dippy Pool, shaped like a flower in the '60s section, and 2 smaller pools, one being the Bowling Pool, in the shape of a bowling pin in the '50s section, and the Computer Pool, shaped like a monitor in the '90s section), and unfortunately at the Value Resorts the swimming pools are not heated as in the moderate and deluxe resorts. So swimming in the pools during the late Fall and Winter time, the water can be a little chilly for some guests. Then you have the Goofy Kiddie Spray Area, located between the 60's and 70's sections, is an interactive play fountain that is great for kids and adults to cool down and have some fun.

DINING

When you get hungry, the resort has its own giant food court, called Everything Pop, Shopping, and Dining, and is located in the Classic Hall building adjacent to the main lobby. With 7 outlets to choose from, it is a perfect choice for everyone, especially since most people have different cravings and tastes. The food court offers American cuisine, such as breakfast items, burgers and fries, chicken, pasta, pizza, and more, as well as drinks and desserts. The food court also sells the re-fillable mugs (only to be used at the resort you are staying at), and is a great choice for those looking to save even more money, as guests pay a one-time fee for the mug and can re-fill at any one of the drink stations in the food court, as many times as they want during their stay.

SHOPPING

There is also a quick shopping store connected to the food court, called Everything Pop, Shopping, and Dining, that offers everything for guests that could basically need and/or want, from Disney merchandise, such as cllectables and shirts, to basic vacation necessities, such as toothpaste and snacks, and much, much more.

PARKING

The resort offers plenty of security patroled self-parking for guests and visitors, as well as those with disabilities. Unfortunately there is no valet parking at any of the value resorts.

TRANSPORTATION

The resort is located within a short bus ride to the Epcot theme park, Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park, and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. While it is a short bus ride from the resort to these locations, the buses make several stops at the front of this rather large resort to drop off and pick up guests all day, so the bus service is rather quick. The buses are clearly marked with their respective destinations to all theme parks, Downtown Disney, Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports, water parks, and Disney's Transportation and Ticket Center all make stops at the resort throughout the day. Just a reminder, the bus service is the best way to get around Walt Disney World, and is free for guests staying on the property. Also, as with all the value resorts, bus pick-up and drop-off is only located at the front of the resort.

Disney's value resorts offer guests wonderful accommodations, plenty of recreational activities,
extremely budget friendly pricing, great locations, along with an assortment of amenities that will satisfy any guest, and the best part is, it is all inside of the Walt Disney World resort. If you have a large group or large family, and on a tight budget, then a Disney value resort is a great choice for those wanting the best that Disney has to offer, from location, price, and of course, the famous Disney service.
