One of the most popular toys for children, especially girls, to have is a doll. They come in all sizes and textures. There are baby dolls for toddlers that do not have small objects that can come off and cause a choking hazard.
Toddler dolls have some movable parts and are larger in size. Dolls for preschoolers have clothing that can be taken on and off, which is great fine motor practice for tiny hands and fingers. They can dramatize and participate in pretend play, which is a way that children this age work out problems in their lives (it is also great fun as a preschool teacher to hear what they say…you can tell what goes on at home based on their role playing).
As girls get older, baby dolls are often traded in for Barbies and other 12 inch dolls. (Boys call toys this height “action figures”. Sounds more masculine.) These toys are typically fashionistas with a wardrobe any real woman would envy.
There are various lines of dolls, each catering to a different a different audience. While some are for princess fans, other line are created based on a movie or television show. Children love to play and engage with the characters in real life.
Disney has a new line of dolls based on the brand new Disney Original Film entitled Descendants.
Disney Descendants Has an All Star Cast
While Disney is known for casting the most popular actors who perform on the company's two telelvision channels in lead roles, there are also several famous actors who are also starring alongside the Disney flavor of the month. Kristen Chenoworth, Kathy Najimy, and Wendy Raquel Robinson, each accomplished actors in their own right from Broadway, films and telelvision are also a part of the cast.
What Happens When Evil Meets Good?
With Disney, it should come as no surprise
The plot line for Disney’s Descendants is a classic one of good versus evil…and can one change their own destiny?
Most children and adults are familiar with the classic Disney films. Older adults remember a time when movies could only be seen in theaters, but as technology evolved, families were able to buy those favorite movies in the iconic clamshell cases and watch them any time-over and over again (and this was a mom’s best friend, trust me!)
When Disney branched out to television, they created movies based on this same premise of good versus bad.
In Descendants, the children of some of the most infamous villains are invited to attend a prep school with the offspring of popular movie protagonists. The children of the villains are allowed to attend the school, but with a mission of evil in mind. They must find a way to steal the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and return it to the Isle of the Lost, where all of the bad guys are sent to live after they have been captured.
Will the children of Disney villains succumb to goodness or stay the path they have been taught by their parents?
Disney Descendants Dolls
The new line of dolls Disney is introducing are based on the characters from the film on both sides of the story.
On the side of evil, you will find:
- Mal-Malificent’s daughter (pictured below in the new Neon Lights line)
- Evie-The Evil Queen’s daughter
- Carlos-The son of Cruella De Vil
- Jay-Son of Jafar
The dolls who are good-the offspring of the princess and princes of our favorite films-are:
- Jane-Daughter of the Fairy Godmother
- Audrey-Daughter of Sleeping Beauty(Princess Aurora) and Prince Phillip
- Lonnie-Mulan and Li Shang’s daughter
- Ben-Son of Belle and Beast
The female dolls are all available in school clothes versions and Coronation Day versions. (Does this mean that there is a happy ending?)
The boy dolls are sold in two packs with a female counterpart, like this Evie and Carlos pairing.
Disney Descendants dolls are going to be popular with tweens and doll collectors as well. It looks like it may be a must have toy for the upcoming holiday season.
