Ways to Quit Diet Soda

Often, when people start diets, they’ll switch to diet soda.  Diet soda might be low in calories and fat but that doesn’t mean it's good for your weight loss goals or for your overall health.

To start with, diet soda doesn’t have sugar in it but it does have chemical sweeteners that can be bad for you.  Studies have already proven that saccharin can cause cancer in laboratory animals.[1839]  Aspartame and sucralose can cause blood sugar spikes, just like sugar, tricking your body and making you feel hungrier.[1840]

When you drink soda, that means you’re drinking less water and water should be what you’re drinking for so many reasons.[1841]  If you regularly drink soda, you should eliminate or limit how much you’re taking in.

So how can you cut back on drinking diet soda?  Here are some things you can do to curb your consumption:

* Drink regular soda.  You can include the calories in your diet plan and limit yourself to one a day or one every once in a while.

* Drink carbonated water like Perrier.  They have a slight citrus flavor but no calories.Ditch the Diet Soda for Weight Loss SuccessCredit: http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/view_photog.php?photogid=681

* Fill a glass with half club soda and half fruit juice.  The fruit juice will provide flavor and the club soda will give you the bubbly stuff like in soda.  Another benefit? No artificial sweeteners or other ingredients.

* Drink iced herbal tea.  Flavored iced green tea or herbal teas can offer flavor without calories.

If you’re like me, trying to break a diet soda addiction is hard.  For me and for a lot of people who drink it, the flavor and caffeine can be addicting.  Particularly, due to the caffeine addiction, you might not want to quit cold turkey.  Cut back slowly if you drink several diet sodas a day.

And if its hard to face a life without diet soda, consider cutting back to just one a day so that it becomes a treat rather than the only thing you drink.  After a while, you won’t need it as much as you thought and you might be able to say goodbye to diet soda forever.  Your wallet will thank you as well since buying all of those sodas can get pricey.

Ditch the diet soda and embrace a new you.  When you drink less diet soda and more water instead, you'll take an important step in increasing the health benefits of your weight loss journey.
