Acne is such a common problem that I'm sure there aren't many people who haven't been through it. I know I certainly have! There was a long period of my life where I had acne quite severely and hence I've been left with scars. I have had most of them removed via laser surgery but there are a few left to remind me. There are plenty of quick home remedies for acne, but do they really work?

The problem with acne is that there are so many different products that claim to be able to get rid of it. While you might think this is a good thing there is actually no real cure for acne so you should be extremely cautious about a product that claims to cure it! There are different things that can help but the majority of stories you hear are just "old wives tales". For example the one about chocolate causing acne is simply not true, in fact acne is often caused by stress so the more chocolate you eat the better! Although of course this is bad for your body in other ways so moderation is the key. There is some evidence that acne is related to diet but research is ongoing into exactly how.

Acne must be one of the few things that has more fake cures than real ones! When I was trying to get rid of my acne I spent huge sums of money on expensive products that claimed to be able to help. It's difficult to tell whether they did or not, but I now know that cleaning your face more will not get rid of acne as the problem isn't caused by dirt. The majority of products are based on cleaning and hence probably don't make a difference.

The only positive side to acne is that over time it is likely to go by itself. In most cases by the time you reach twenty the acne will be mostly gone apart from a few pimples every one and then.

It's hard to not lose your confidence when you have a lot of acne but keep believing that the acne will go soon and try to get on with your life as much as possible. Acne often comes during a very difficult time but don't let it ruin your life! Keep having confidence that you will get rid of it eventually and try to relax about it. The less stressed you are the less likely you are to have acne outbreaks, so although this can be difficult try to forget about it.
