Do I Need Life Insurance?

Life Insurance: One of the hardest conversations I have with clients is about life insurance. Why? That's easy, nobody likes thinking about death. However, it is an important discussion to have, at least once a year with a professional. Why? Because your life isn't static, it's dynamic, ever-changing. Do you think a single college student needs as much life insurance as a married father of three?

Take a minute to think about all the people it would affect if you passed away. I know it's not an easy thought, but you can do it. It's probably a lot of people. In fact, there are probably so many people that you can't name them all. You are an important person, whether or not you are a student, a spouse, a parent, a laborer, or a CEO.

Now I want you to make a list of those people to whom you are most important. Think of your spouse and your children. Add in close family members and friends. This list may be short, or it may be long, and when it is done you should look it over.

Take your list, and answer this question for each person: In my life, what do I want to do for this person?

I will show you an example list now.

JoAnne (spouse) I want to work hard so Jo can be home with the kids

I want to help pay for all three of the kids to go to college

Kyle (son) I want to help Kyle follow his dreams of becoming an astronaut

Mary (daughter) I want to walk Mary down the aisle

John (son) well, John is three, so I don't know what he will want yet, but I want to help him achieve it!

Barbara (mom) I want to make sure mom never has to go to a nursing home

Jack (dad) the same for dad, but since he is younger than mom, I want to make sure he can take care of her

Simon (best friend) I want to help Simon build a new home that he is always talking about

Zoe (God-daughter) I want to be able to give Zoe some money towards college since I know her parents haven't started saving yet.

Like I said, this was an example list. Take a look at it again, and you will find that most things are going to take hard work and a good living. Now look at your own list, I want you to put a star by the things you are without a doubt going to do. Now ask yourself: What if something tragic happened and I lost my life? Would any of these things be taken care of? Did you know that you can insure that your wants be taken care of with Life Insurance? If something tragic were to happen, your hopes and dreams could still be fulfilled. This is the power of life insurance, are you protected?
