The Power of Catechins

Green tea contains a large amount of antioxidant compounds known as catechins. These have anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce LDL cholesterol in the body. For those who don’t know, LDL is the bad kind of cholesterol than can cause complications and lead to cardiovascular disease. Although catechins do not have the ability to directly burn fat, they have the power to speed up our metabolism. A faster metabolism means that whatever we eat is processed quickly. This can lead to weight loss in the long run.

Releases Norepinpehrine

A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food indicated that EGCG (catechin epigallocatechin gallate) stimulates an enzyme that breaks down norepinephrine. This element is responsible for the release of fatty acids from fat cells in the body. The fat is then transferred to the bloodstream where it is eventually used up for energy. So green tea can certainly assist any weight loss endeavor this way.

Regulates Blood Sugar Level

Another advantage of green tea in terms of weight loss is that it’s a glucose regulator. This is beneficial not only for diabetics, but also for completely healthy people. Green tea contains ingredients which prevent the blood sugar level from rising too much. After we eat a meal, the level of sugar in the body increases, which is why insulin is released to counter that sugar. Green tea helps the release of insulin. For those who are interested in losing weight, this is a sustainable method to do so.

Stay Healthy Inside Out

Just looking fit from the outside isn’t everything because the true test is keeping our body healthy from within. Green tea can help do both, because it reduces weight and decreases the amount of free radicals in our body. In addition, it also has the ability to fight one of the most prevalent ailments known to man, heart disease. Consumption of this type of tea reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Extensive Research Proves It

Repeated studies conducted at the Journal of Medicinal Food have proved that catechins and EGCG both reduce weight. A large number of people have been put under observation for certain durations, from weeks to months. In all instances, there was weight loss that occurred in both men and women. Some people lost as little as 5 pounds whereas, some lost as much as 30 pounds in a single month.

It goes without saying that one has to adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to lose weight effectively. However, catechins and EGCG (consumed as green tea or green tea extract) serve as a great natural way to burn fat.
