Dog Grooming Tips

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

Everybody loves a well-behaved, well-groomed dog. Not only will it make you more socially acceptable, your dog could even become everyone's favorite pet! To get to this point, you should start with proper grooming, especially if your dog has a lot of hair. Here are some dog grooming tips you might find very useful.

Get The Right Grooming Tools

The brush and comb you should use on your dog will depend on his coat type. There is the bristle brush though that can be used on all types, but if you really want to get technical, use the wire pin brushes for medium to long curly and thick coats. The slicker brushes are mainly used to untangle knots and remove hair that have matted together.

Combs are generally used to take out dead hair and massage the skin of your dog.

Cut Nails Carefully

Many dogs are uncomfortable with nail cutting. To get over this, schedule nail cutting every month, earlier if possible. Cutting your dog's nails can be a little nerve-wracking in the beginning because there is the remote possibility of cutting too much, causing pain and bleeding. To avoid this, just cut the dark colored parts of the nail.

Ear Cleaning For Good Hygiene and Health

A dog's ears are very susceptible to infection, and infections from the ears can develop into more complicated medical issues. This part of our dog grooming tips is very important because your dog can get sick from dirty or itchy ears. Fleas and ticks like to hide in the dog's ears, which can cause them to scratch their ears often. Also, if your dog is emitting a certain foul odor, check his ears. Oftentimes, dirty ears can be the cause of the bad smell.

Bathing Challenges

How often have we bathed out dogs only to have them roll around in the dirt right after? One way out of this predicament would be to choose your dog soap and shampoo properly. A great dog grooming tip would be to buy one without scent, or one with a very mild scent. Also, try to get one that is made of natural products to avoid any allergic reaction.

Heartworrm prevention is also important. Make sure you use an appropriate heartworm treatment, such as Heartgard Plus for dogs.
