There are endless possibilities in Door County. This is truly a family friendly place that you can all enjoy.
It can be very expensive to spend more than a few days here.
I have been up there a total of seven times and not even done half of the things that there are to do.
Door County, Wi is one of Wisconsin's premier vacation destinations. It is no mistake that it has earned this distinction. There are so many things to do here that you had better block off an entire week to just scratch the surface.
Located just 100 miles north of the City of Milwaukee this jewel of the north boasts some of Wisconsin's best beaches, restaurants, and quaintest shops and best sightseeing.
There are plenty of beaches that the entire family will enjoy:
One of the most popular is located in Whitefish Dunes State Park. There are 3-miles of shoreline in this 865 acre day-use area on the eastern side of the Door County Peninsula. As you are enjoying the beach you can see the forests in the distance, It is very relaxing.
This is a very popular park in the summer that can become very crowded during the weekends.
As for dining the one thing that you will not find in Door County is a McDonalds or other fast food restaurant. But not to worry because there are an endless variety of dining choices for some of the most discriminating tastes to choose from. Just about anything that you want you can find here. One of my personal favorites is the Log Den Restaurant located on Hwy 42 just south of Egg Harbor. There is a salad bar here that is second to none, not to mention the prime rib is absolutely to die for. I consider myself to be a connoisseur of prime rib, and the one I ate there was nothing short of extraordinary. My wife had the Chilean sea bass which was also excellent.
The shopping in Egg Harbor and Fish Creek is unique. There are dozens of quaint shops with unique products that you will not find anywhere else. One of my personal favorites is a shop called Fat Louie's. This shop specializes in one of a kind balsamic vinegars and olive oils.
Another thing that Door County is famous for is its vineyards. You will have to take a day just to visit all of the wine shops. Each of them has its brand of wine made right there and offers wine tasting. If you are up there in the late summer or early fall you will have to stop in at one of the orchards and stock up on fruit.
For those of you who enjoy fishing Green Bay offers world-class walleye and smallmouth bass fishing. There is a brand new boat launch in Egg Harbor with ample parking. You can launch your boat there for $10/day.
It is difficult to believe that something this nice and unique is this close to home. I always find myself wishing that I had more time to spend and explore more of what Door County has to offer. Each time I visit this place I try to do something new.
